Our Great Grandson Harley Mathew Collingswood
There are two singers in the world that Pat really likes, or liked; that’s
Neil Diamond and Elvis Presley. Tonight it was Elvis’s night in the guise of Jim Santana. He has the look, the sound and the voice to pay tribute to Elvis Presley. We missed the first set and were told that he and his lovely wife Mandy were fabulous. In the second set Jim sang as you would expect lots of the hits and he also sang songs you don’t really associate with Elvis. ‘What Now My Love’ and ‘Runaway’ . Jim was dressed in a white Elvis style jump suit and Mandy was wearing a short silver sequined dress adorned with black stars, (Lts). It was good show as the full Alverthorpe club would tell you. Well we enjoyed the show. I have always said that Jim Santana has a great visual show with all the lights and backdrops, the sound is very powerful but no offensively loud, just loud enough… Casey Red Welcomed In Westgate Common WMC. This is a young lady I didn’t know until tonight; she looked good dressed in a short black lace dress and (Lts)… she has a good PA system and she can sing. Casey told me that she was trained in Liverpool as a classical singer and she can certainly hit the notes. Some of her songs were by, The Carpenters, ‘Mr Postman’, ‘Baby Love’ by Diana Ross and the Supremes, I liked her version of Van Morrisons, ‘Brown Eyed Girl… look out for this young lady who has only been on the circuit for a few months but I think she is going to be one to watch In the not too distant future... The Scratch Band ... Stewart, Steve, Mick and Martin...
At Balne Lane WMC, Benjamin Street, Wakefield, WF2 9AN .. "New Years Eve"... (Non Members And Associates £3...) IT’S JIM SANTANA
ALONG WITH HIS LOVELY WIFE MANDY IN ALVERTHORPE WMC "TONIGHT" December 26th ... Boxing Day BE EARLY FOR A GOOD SEAT LOUIE STEPHENS After checking out the clubland review magazines in my area, I had a drive around looking for entertainment; I even checked on line and one club was completely empty except for the duo appearing. (I’m sure I will have missed something). It was a reasonably busy Alverthorpe club for me. The artiste engaged was Louie Stephens; he was very smart in a suit, shirt and tie. Louie has a fine voice, a good personality and a good repertoire. In the set I saw and heard Louie sang Sam Cooke’s, ‘What A Wonderful World’, ‘Soul Man’, ‘Good Golly Miss Molly’, there was an Olly Murs song, ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’, The Bruno Mars song, ‘Lazy Song’. there were more songs but I think I have shown the variation that Louie has in his vast repertoire… Thank you dancers for helping with the atmosphere for this fine entertainer… MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE…
Horbury Club was very busy on Christmas Eve when we arrived at 8pm; the artiste for the night was the beautiful, talented, ‘Danielle Grace Williams’. she looked fabulous in a short turquoise dress and a diamante necklace, (Lts). Her sound system is excellent and she chose songs that most people liked. Some of those were, The Pointer Sisters, ‘I’m So Excited’, followed by, ‘Never Forget You’, a Mary Wells song ‘My Guy’. Danielle soon had the members singing along with her. There were the songs of The Ronettes, The Corrs, one from Dirty Dancing and the Louise version of, ‘Stuck In The Middle’. It was great catching up with Danielle who I have known for a few years now and have seen her progress into the consummate professional she is today… After Danielle’s first set, the Horbury Victoria Band came in and played a few carols for us; there was a mystery singer in the room; we did discover his identity but will save his red face… Our next stop was at yet another busy club, Earlsheaton Central where we saw our friends, Debbie and Tracy who together are, ‘Sassy’ an excellent duo. They looked great in their stage outfits and there were costume changes too. The sound system has been upgraded and it sounds great. Some of their songs were, ‘Blue Heaven Is A Place On Earth‘,(For Mr T), Tiffany’s, ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’, there were a couple of Billy Ocean songs and a nice Motown song, ‘Working My Way Back To You Love. Thank you for the mention ladies… Our final call was in yet another busy club, 'Westgate Common' on our way home; on stage were two sisters, Charley and Elly who make up the duo, Just Us. Again, a good PA system, nice voices and harmonies and the stage wear was lovely. We only caught a few of their songs as it was late. They sang in the set we saw, Abba’s Does Your Mother Know’ and a well known Abba medley. They also sang, ‘Human‘, ‘Sex On Fire’, ‘Summer Of ‘69’ and ‘Human’. the sisters used the stage like professionals… Well done girls… Rothwell Club Very Busy Tonight…
My plans went astray somewhat tonight when I went out; my first call was in Rothwell where I saw Lauren Faye Moss, what an entertainer, she has a terrific voice, personality, charisma, a winning smile and some good sound equipment. Normally at this club the artiste perform’s 3 X 30 minutes sets but tonight it was 2 X 45‘s. Lauren went on stage at 8 - 45 dressed in a blue peacock dress, (Lts). She soon had the crowd on her side from the very first song and the dancers were soon on their feet. A few of her songs were by artistes like, Chaka Khan, (Ain’t Nobody), Adele, (Rolling In The Deep), Shania Twain, (Man I Feel Like A Woman). There were lots more, Lauren has a super selection of songs; you really must see her for yourself… I must mention Anne Marie who was celebrating her birthday and was out with her friends. Ann marie said she was 21 but I think a bit older, 22. Happy birthday love... Ian Tyler was in form at Alverthorpe, he was just going on stage for his last set and, yes there were dancers eager to hit the floor. Ian, as well as being an Elvis tribute artiste he also sings songs from different eras. Songs like, ’The Wonder Of You’, ’Johnny B Goode’, ’Great balls Of Fire’, some of the Beatles songs and Culture Club’s, ‘Karma Chameleon’. Ian finished his set with The Callings, ’Wherever You Will Go’. Not heard that one for a while… An excellent set from Ian Tyler… Top Marks For Westgate Common!!!
A near full club welcomed us in Westgate tonight; I remember seeing Top Marks at the Horseshoe Bar in Blackpool back in April. Since then the duo parted company, (amicably) and Mark has teamed up with Andy. Both looked very smart in grey three piece suits and ties, (Lts). The intro music, (Pirates Of The Caribbean), was impressive as were their lights and PA systems. Some of the songs were, ‘This Old Heart Of Mine’, ‘The Tears Of A Clown’, there were a couple of Neil Diamond songs and they finished the first set with a song by a band called Extreme called, ‘More Then Words’. An excellent show from, Top Marks... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Down the road at Brookhouse club I saw, for the second time this week, Beebi Del; what a wonderful singer / entertainer. Her stage outfits are superb as is her sound system. The outfit I saw was a black and gold sequined dress with a matching black and gold sequined jacket. (Lts). Tonight I was well impressed with the repertoire of songs that Beebi sang; they included one from Abba, ‘Thank You For The Music’, this had the members singing and clapping along, a couple of Christmas songs, ‘Winter Wonderland and White Christmas’. The guy on the next table put his heart into singing along with this one. A good performance from Beebi Del... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The last call was at the Admiral Duncan where the Pontefract band Vinyl Legacy was the band on stage. A terrific sound of the songs from the 50’s and 60’s. Top class harmonies from some excellent singers. The dance floor was buzzing as the guys played songs by Elvis, Cliff Richard, Roy Orbison and many more. Yes folks a good night of entertainment... Trevor Craig, Welcomed In Ladybalk Club.
There were quite a few in Ladybalk to see young singing Star, Trevor Craig; he was dressed casually smart in black trousers and shirt. Former X Factor contestant Trevor has a fine voice; he carries a good PA system and chose the songs to suit his audience. Songs of Elton John, Roy Orbison, Peter Cetera, Cliff Richard and Celine Dion were featured. One member came across and told Trevor that a lady in the club who was a former singer sent her compliments saying he was a very good entertainer... A really nice gesture... The Last Friday Act In Alverthorpe was local three piece band, Carefree. Rob on lead vocals, Brian on lead guitar and vocals with Craig on bass make up the band. They are always very smart on stage and always have a smile. A couple of their songs were The Hollies, ‘Carrie – Anne’ and Status Quo’s‘Caroline’... another good show from, ‘Carefree’. The Primates Impress In the Admiral Duncan. The pub was not full but enough there to make a good atmosphere; this four piece outfit are good musicians who can all sing; the harmonies are excellent and the lead singer, although he has a sore throat did a great job. Some of the songs were, Bryan Adams, ‘Summer Of 69’, Kim Wilde’s, ‘Kids In America’, Slades, ‘Cum On Feel The Noiz’ and a few of The Kinks songs... A good night of entertainment... |
