Tonight I Am In Thryberg Sports And Social Club in Rotherham with John and Sharon Fitzpatrick, John was the artiste on stage tonight. John always looks immaculately dressed , like the shoes. John was in fine voice as he went through his repertoire. One thing I noticed as I'm sure many others who have been at this club have, the stage is very high and John and I can only just see over the top. A few of his songs were recorded by, Matt Monro, Tony Christie, Al Martino, Bobby Blue and quite a few more. Enough to say John had an excellent night with members praising his voice, a few jokes went down equally well. Great stuff John..

Tonight we will be in Ossett Central WMC.
The artiste tonight is a super duo, Sound Craft; Amelia Davis, was dressed in a short red and black dress, like the shoes and Paul, was dressed casually. They carry good sound and lights equipment. The first song was, Stevie Wonder’s, ‘Superstition’, Next was The Noisettes, 'Never Forget You', a nice mixture of new and older songs to suit this audience. The next song was Amy Winehouse's,'Valerie', a Gary Moore number was, 'Still Got The Blues', wow, he sure can play that there Guitar. By way of a change in style the next song was Pink’s, ‘Who Knew'. Sound Craft closed their first set with an Adele song, 'Rolling In The Deep'. Pat and I really enjoyed the duo. The artiste for Christmas Eve at Ossett Central is 'SASSY' Two Girls Duo. Our next visit was at Horbury WMC where we saw, Red Rocks, Helen -Marie and Brad are the two in the duo the on stage effects, sound, lights and videos made it a spectacular sight. Carl was there on sound and doing a great job too. They opened with Toto’s, 'Hold The Line'. A few jokes from Brad have been added into the show. The next song was, 'Since You've Been Gone’. The harmonies are note perfect. A couple from Journey in a medley. I liked their rendition of 'The Living Years', one by a long time favourite of ours, Mike And The Mechanics. Red Rocks closed this set with a Meatloaf song that the members loved.... John Gillan At The B&S, Featherstone. It was raining heavily when I arrived at the club to see John Gillan: as usual immaculate in his appearance, like the shoes, most of you will know by now that John has a superb operatic voice. John was also the Bingo Caller with hilarious results. The concert secretary of Pontefract Sports & Social Club, John Blackburn, won the first single line. Tonight John opened his proper show with, 'Hello Again'. This was a new song to me by Dominic Kerwan. A few of his very funny jokes followed then on and on to his second song which was, 'Desperado' an Eagles song. John left the stage to a great ovation. John is to appear on stage with the great opera singer, Andrea Bocelli in May of next year, (as he said, ‘too late for this year'), Alverthorpe Club was reasonably busy for the Scratch Band tonight. It was raining very heavily outside which must have affected the attendance. As I arrived they were singing, 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain’. Yes, just as i got here. This was followed by Greg singing, 'I Don't Like Monday's', then we had a real mixture of musicians who were, Greg, Graham, Martin Tagg, Martin Ramsden, Stephen Mounsey, Mick ,Stewart and anyone else who wants to have a sing, where was Stan The Man. Mick Linskey sang, 'Folsom Prison Blues'. Oh, Stan is here, he sang a Roy Orbison song, 'Pretty Woman' and 'Doctor Doctor'.(8 / 10 Stan). More songs were a Beatles song, 'Please Please Me'. You're Sixteen', I liked a Box Tops number, 'The Letter'. Tonight after playing truant last night I first went to see a super singer,
'Louise Nash', at 'The Nash', in Castleford. Louise looked terrific in her stage outfit. A short black sparkly little number; like the shoes. The PA is good and Louise sure knows how set it for the room. Her first song was a Rod Stewart song, 'Have I Told You Lately That I Love You ', a lovey opning song, the audience was hushed as she sang this one; there was 'You To Me Are Everything ', a Real Thing hit, always popular in the clubs. Louise sang a lovely country song called, 'Need You Now'. Her voice adapts to many styles of songs, love this next one. 'Teenager In Love', had the audience singing along; there was a Del Shannon song, 'Runaway'. Louise sang some songs not heard very often in the Nash and they went down well, one was, 'Tell Me Lies’; Louise really is one of the best. ‘Runaround Sue’, was good too. A natural and laid back entertainer, that's, 'Louise Nash'. She closed the first set with a Shania Twain song, 'From This Moment. Louise told me later that Lady Antebellum sang, 'Need You Now', My second visit was to the Albion Street Club,‘The Top Hat’, in South Kirkby to see Steve Andrews and my friend Concert Secretary, Kevin Kane. Steve is always well dressed for the stage in a proper black stage suit, like the shoes and he has a good voice, singing songs from all eras. His first song in this his second set was, 'Love Is In The Air', a John Paul Young song, next a Matt Monro song, 'If I Never Sing Another Song'. There was a Searchers song which was in the Joe Longthorne style, ‘When You Walk In The Room’, one by Van Morrison, 'Brown Eyed Girl'. A John Rowles song, 'If I Only Had Time'. He had the crowd singing along with an up tempo, 'When You're Smiling' and 'Delilah'.The set finished with, 'Sweet Caroline'. An excellent set Steve Andrews... Tonight I'm at the Albion Street Club in Castleford, (The Nash).
On stage tonight it's 'The Dream Girls'. They came on stage wearing red sequinned dresses, very glamorous. Like the shoes. Stevie and Chris opened their show with, ‘S’Wonderful’ and ‘You're My World’. The comedy was outrageous so, funny but I'll leave that out. Most of their shows are in Turkey but they hail from Castleford. What a super show, I saw part of the first set and my trousers are nearly dry from laughter. Stevie and Chris are,‘The Dream Girls'. Waiting For Picture. Yet again Gilly's Traditional CMC was very busy, within Westgate Common Wmc. On stage tonight, the Mike Ford Duo. They were on stage when I arrived. They arrived late due to a serious accident on the M1,Some of their songs were, 'Some Days Are Diamonds' and a Johnny Cash favourite, 'I'll Walk The Line'. There was one I have heard but a long time ago called, 'Ira Heap'. There was Leroy Van Dyke’s, ‘Walk On By'. The set was closed with a song called, 'T For Texas'. Mike and his bass player. In the second set a couple of songs were, A Johnny Cash song, 'Out Among The Stars', Billy Joe Shaver’s, ‘We’ll Live Forever’, Dwight Yokem’s, ‘It Wont Hurt’. There were many more that this listening crowd were singing along to. One song that that took me back to the days of Heppy and the Wakefield Arms band was a Kris Kristofferson's song, 'Sunday Morning Coming Down', a song new to me was one called 'Sam Stone'. Another good night at Gilly's TRADITIONAL Country Club. Tonight finds me at a very busy Staincliffe Cricket Club, Dewsbury. On stage was a mum and daughter duo from Lancashire, La Belle. Richie and Kearns are their names. Two lovely ladies with lovely voices, good sound equipment. Their first song was, 'I Just Came To Say Hello', a real show opener, very lively. I love the comedy between mum and daughter, the second song was, 'I'll Be There', recorded by Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, the harmonies were superb, note perfect. All the movements were well co-ordinated, there was Peter and Gordon’s, ‘World Without Love'. The stage outfits were short and bright sequinned dresses, (here we go, like the shoes). The next song was Johnny Angel, one I've heard but couldn't remember the artiste. There was an early medley of disco music, ‘Jive Talking', 'You Should Be Dancing', 'You Win Again'. I just loved La Belle's version of, 'The Hand That Leads Me'. The feeling in this song brought me near to tears. La Belle closed the first set with, 'Love Hurts'. A brilliant and entertaining first set.
***************************************************************************************************************** I caught up with Lauren Faye Moss in Ossett Central club; she looked stunning in a black and pink dress, like the shoes. Lauren has a great voice and sound system she was already into her second set when I arrived and was going well. There was an Abba song, ‘Dancing Queen', and a Carol King song, 'It Might As Well Rain Until September'. Yes, Lauren was in fine form. Lauren tells me that she has upward of 25 tribute shows, well I have seen quite a few myself and each one is first class. The voices, the costumes are all as near as you are going to get. I saw her on a trade show a while ago when she was a Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and Madonna to name a few. There are many others but you really must see the fabulous, Lauren Faye Moss for the others. Keith Lovelle in Glasshoughton Wmc. The club was as usual busy tonight; I was late getting there and only caught Keith's second set. He is part of a duo called Now. Keith opened his second set with, 'Heaven Must Be Missing Angels'. In a medley with 'Don't Take Away The Music', Keith was dressed casually smart on stage. He sang The Temptations, ‘My Girl', and 'More Than A Woman', were some of his songs. He is an excellent singer and carries good sound equipment too. Another song I liked was one by Foundations ‘Build Me Up Buttercup'. A really good mix of songs from Keith and he had dancers on the floor too. I liked, 'Shine A Light On Her', A McFly song Keith ended his set with, ‘Human'. Keith will soon be going out as Keith Alone, at the moment he is in a very good duo called Now. |
