John Gillan At The B&S, Featherstone.
It was raining heavily when I arrived at the club to see John Gillan: as usual immaculate in his appearance, like the shoes, most of you will know by now that John has a superb operatic voice. John was also the Bingo Caller with hilarious results. The concert secretary of Pontefract Sports & Social Club, John Blackburn, won the first single line.
Tonight John opened his proper show with, 'Hello Again'. This was a new song to me by Dominic Kerwan. A few of his very funny jokes followed then on and on to his second song which was, 'Desperado' an Eagles song. John left the stage to a great ovation. John is to appear on stage with the great opera singer, Andrea Bocelli in May of next year, (as he said, ‘too late for this year'),
Alverthorpe Club was reasonably busy for the Scratch Band tonight. It was raining very heavily outside which must have affected the attendance. As I arrived they were singing, 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain’. Yes, just as i got here. This was followed by Greg singing, 'I Don't Like Monday's', then we had a real mixture of musicians who were, Greg, Graham, Martin Tagg, Martin Ramsden, Stephen Mounsey, Mick ,Stewart and anyone else who wants to have a sing, where was Stan The Man. Mick Linskey sang, 'Folsom Prison Blues'. Oh, Stan is here, he sang a Roy Orbison song, 'Pretty Woman' and 'Doctor Doctor'.(8 / 10 Stan). More songs were a Beatles song, 'Please Please Me'. You're Sixteen', I liked a Box Tops number, 'The Letter'.
