The artiste for tonight is Mike Carlton recently returned from Tenerife. Another full club here in Glasshoughton, Just like Christmas said one member; Mike looked smart in a suit, shirt and tie. His opening song was,’ My First My Last My Everything'. Mike has good voice and a top personality. There were songs by Lionel Richie, Neil Diamond, (Sweet Caroline), Meatloaf, ‘Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad', The Byrds, 'Mr Tambourine Man.', Roy Orbison, Gerry And The Pacemakers and Westlife to close his first set. Mike certainly knows how to work a crowd, well done sir... In his second set Mike opened with, 'Young Girl', a Gary Pucket Union Gap song from the 1960's. 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', an Elton John hit. There were a few one liners in his show. Mike's dad sang Bobby Darin's, 'La Mere', (Beyond The Sea). Mike came back to sing Sammy King's, 'Penny Arcade', who says they don't like it in Clubland? It went really well with the crowd. Great stuff Mike Carlton... Sunday October 20th. The Nash was busy again tonight; I called in to see a young lady called, Stacey Rhodes, I have seen Stacey a couple of times before and like her style, appearance and her lovely voice. She is now managed by the Gordon Kellett agency. In the set I saw tonight Stacey opened with, 'Rolling In The Deep', an Adele hit; Stacey looked great in a long cocktail dress, (Lts), Stacey has lot of confidence. I loved her Emile Sande song, 'Clowne , she sang this song for Mr T, next was Patsy Cline's, 'Crazy'. There were lots more songs that the Nash members liked. One I think she did really well with was, 'Son Of A Preacher Man'. There were lots more songs from this young lady and all well sung. Stacey Rhodes folks... 'Leanne' In The Prince Of Wales WMC...
The Prince Of Wales Club was quite busy tonight when I called in. On stage was Leanne, a change from the advertised act. Leanne looked good in a bright red dress and a black bolero, (Lts), She has a good strong voice and a good PA. The set I saw was her second which she opened with, ‘Unchained Melody’, Hey, I liked that one. Next was a Gloria Gaynor hit, ‘I Will Survive’ followed by a Tina Turner Medley. More of her songs were by Ronan Keating, Amy Winehouse and more. A very good choice from, ‘Leanne’. A double bill at a very busy. Brinsworth WMC. Beebi Del and John Fitzpatrick shared the double billing tonight at this super club. It was my First ever visit; I was well impressed with the smooth running of the evening's events.
Opening the. Show was John Fitzpatrick from Morley; he looked very smart in his stage outfit. John's opening song was, 'How Do You Do', a Matt Monro song. This is John's way of introducing himself to the audience and it works. A Jimmy Justice song followed. There were Elvis songs, some from Julie Rogers, Frank Sinatra's, ‘Sunny Side Of The Street', do you remember that one? Tony Christie songs featured. Daniel Merryweather's 'Red', not many in clubland sings that one. John continued with a Clarence Frogman Henry hit back in the 60's. John finished his first set with Rita McNeil's 'Working Man ‘and left the stage to great ovation.. Next on stage was Beebi Del looking beautiful in a long sequined dress, LTS! Beebi opened her first set with a country song from her new CD. She followed this with the Corrs‘Breathless’; this was followed by a super version of Alexander Burke's, 'Hallelujah'. One new on me tonight was, 'Mysterious Times', a song by, Sash, loved that, Beebi sang one from the show, 'Jekyll and Hyde' which was, 'This Is the Moment', one. For Mr T, 'Xanadu', Beebi always sings this song for me... She has worked on cruise liners, television and still looks very young. There we're quite a few songs from her CD that the members enjoyed. Beebi closed her first set with Lonestar's 'Amazed'. A super show from Beebi Del. Next was 'BINGO'!!! Some good prizes here but alas not for Pat or Sharon. John came back for his second set opening with a Back Street Boys song, 'Larger Than Life'. One from the Tremeloes, 'My Little Lady', John’s own version of 'Sex On Fire' went down the proverbial storm as did all his visual comedy. There was a song for a lady working on the bar, Billy Fury's 'Like I've Never Been Gone'. Gene Pitney's 'I'm Gonna Be Strong'. I heard it said in the club, ‘John Is An All Round Entertainer’. Matt Monro's 'The Impossible Dream' and 'Who Can I Turn To’ went down really well. John ended his part of the show with Tony Christie's, 'Avenues And Alleyways'. He was called back for an encore and sang a lovely song called, ‘The Second Time’. The last set from Beebi Del started with 'Could It Be Magic'. Followed by Bette Midler's, 'The Rose’, ‘I’m Alive', (Celine Dion)'. There were lots of dancers on the floor. I think the order given for both artistes was first class. Beebi continued with more of her country music which the members just loved. Human, Proud Mary, Great stuff Beebi. Thank you to Sally and Martin Lennon for helping with some of the song titles and for introducing me to the club president, Chris Spooner and being very friendly. The concert chairman, Kevin, was excellent and made the artistes feel welcome I found this recently refurbished club to be homely. "I Will Be Back" ... Paul Graham at the, Frog And Moose in Ackworth.
As always Paul was smartly dressed. He has a great voice and PA system. The place soon filled when he took the stage. Paul's opening song was a Lionel Richie song, 'All Night Long'. Nick Kershaw's 'Wouldn't It Be Good', followed, quite a different choice of songs. I didn't know a couple of his songs but I liked what I heard, the next was for his lovely. Wife, Angie, 'Missing You'. There was a Richard Marx song. ‘I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight', A Cutting Crew Hit. Yes a great set from Paul Graham who closed his first set with Bon Jovi’s,' It’s My Life'. Most of you will know Paul and Angie are the duo, "Picture This". Scratch Band in The Boot And Shoe. I Called in at the Boot and Shoe where I saw The Scratch Band. The sound was terrific tonight, the harmonies were very tight and note perfect. A few of the songs I heard tonight were by the Fourmost, 'You Got Your Troubles’, The Travelling Wilburys, ‘End Of The Line’, The Searchers,’ ‘When You Walk In The Room’. Oasis’s, 'She's Electric'. I had called in to see the landlord, Les, and his Gorgeous wife Lynn. Les gets some top bands in the pub, last week, John Verity, (Ex - Argent), made an appearance. The STAT band will appear at the Boot And Shoe on Friday 22nd November. The Scratch Band will be at The Shepherds Arms In Horbury, on Friday October 25th. The Blackpool Command Preview Show.

There were 4 hopeful artistes on stage,(One didn’t turn up) each hoping to be chosen to appear at The Horseshoe Bar on Blackpool's famous pleasure beach. Amy's first song was 'Nine Times Out Of Ten', followed by Billy Ocean's' 'Red Light Spells Danger' Amy's voice and performance is improving each time I hear and see her. I was most impressed with her version of 'Babe', a Styx song. Dobie Gray's 'Out On The Floor', Elkie Brooks, 'We Don't Cry Out Loud'. Amy's finished her set with You’re The Best Thing That Ever Happened', a Gladys Knight hit... Next up was Second Journey looking very smart in black suits and shirts with red ties, their first song was the Killers 'Human' in perfect harmony followed by Billy Ocean’s 'Love Really Hurts', a Bruno Mars hit ,'Just The Way You Are'. Meatloaf's 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad’. Second Journey's last song was Journey's, 'Don't Stop Believing'. Another great set from Second Journey. The next artiste was Little Sam Lyons from Barnsley; (I'm taller than her). Sam opened her set with, 'Mr Rock And Roll', an Ami McDonald song. Sam looked great in short yellow dress, (Ltb). A good sound, good stage presence and personality. Sam continued with Karen Carpenter's 'Superstar' and on to a nice country song. 'Have You Ever Been Lonely. Avery good mix of songs from this lady. there was. 'Hurt', a Timi Yuri recording. 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love' By Frankie Lyman and The Teenagers song, and 'Stand By Me' was Sam's last song...
