The Scratch Band At The Admiral Duncan Next Saturday Night...
I do enjoy a good comedian and I saw one in the form of Dave Ferry who was in a double bill with Sky Adams at Brookhouse club on Saturday night. Dave was about to go on stage when we arrived. He opened hi set with Elvis Presley’s ‘The Wonder Of You’ in which the members joined in. Dave continued with his comedy which I will not repeat except to say his comedy impressions of E.T., Michael Jackson, Joe Gladwin, Michael Crawford, Benny Hill and many others were excellent. Dave sang more Elvis songs, ‘Cant Help Falling In Love‘ and ‘You Were Always On My Mind’ ...
I didn’t get to hear Sky but I was told she was in excellent form… The Admiral Duncan in Wakefield was very busy tonight; the band playing was a relatively new band called, The Undecided; a four piece outfit made up by, David on guitar, Keyboards and lead vocals, Freddie on bass and harmony vocals, Sam was a stand in tonight on drums, (Very good) and a young lady, Sarah, on violin and she is excellent. The whole band is very good, as is the equipment. The overall sound was just the right volume. Very easy on the ear. Some of the songs We heard were by the Beatles, Jessie J, Johnny Cash, Snow Patrol. There was one song, (New to me) called, ‘The Lion Man’ . this went down really well… Check out, Undecided…
NEXT SATURDAY AT THE DUNCAN; THE SCRATCH BAND...TOP LOCAL BAND Westgate Common was a busy place to be on Saturday night; on stage was local harmony trio, “Carefree”. Rob, Graham and Craig were in fine form. The guys were as always very smart dressed in matching suits; the PA is first class, so on with the show’ they opened with ’Sha La ,La , La, Lee,(Who sang that one? Ah, yes, my friend Glen Cooper told me, The Small Faces; Thanks Glen) followed by a couple of jokes from Rob, there were songs by the Eagles, The Searchers, Thin Lizzie, The Shadows and many others. They finished this impressive set with Snow Patrol’s, 'Chasing Pavements’. the vocals and the harmonies were excellent, look out for Carefree ... Important Notice
The Wakefield / Pontefract Concert Secretaries Meeting And Showcase/Audition Night Will Be Held At Pontefract Sports & Social Club on Wednesday 27th Of February And Not On the “20th” As Previously Advertised… The First Fryston Welfare Country Night started well tonight with the super rich voice of Chris Raddings; there was quite a good turn out considering the bad weather conditions. The Fryston Welfare club has a large concert room with lots of space for the line dancers. Chris opened his set with, ‘I Haven’t Been For A Long Time’, I’m sure it wont be long before Chris comes back. He also sang, ‘The Heaven In My Woman’s Eyes’ and ‘Old Country Came to Town’. I hope the club does thrive, the people in tonight are very enthusiastic; the club’s committee provided some sandwiches and pork pie, very kind of them. So lets see more people in Fryston Welfare Country Club… The next Country Music club night here in Fryston is on Friday 8th February with the very popular, Phil Lloyd. I went to the Wakefield & District Concert Secretaries Federation Showcase at the Moorthorpe Empire WMC tonight; after the meeting Anne Christie compered a showcase. Due to another place I had to be I only caught two acts. After Anne had sung a couple of songs, a Katrina And The Waves song, 'I'm Walking On Sunshine' and the Mama Cass hit,'It’s Getting Better', she introduced Huddersfield singer, Colby Gray; he was in a rock band for ten years and has decided to try his hand solo. He was dressed top to toe in black, he has a good voice and sang in his set, ‘Suspicious Minds’, the Kenny Rogers song, ‘Lucille’ and Tom Jones’ ‘Delilah’.
Anne introduced Richie Padre who looked immaculate in a tuxedo. He has a good strong voice and sang some of the Four Seasons songs, what a super falsetto he has in his voice,‘Sherry Baby ‘Walk Like a Man’ , ‘Rag Doll’ in a medley. He closed his show with a Motown medley… At this point I had to leave and I hope the rest of the night went well… Saturday Night; 26th January… Change Of Act At Westgate Common WMC, Wakefield. The Artiste Engaged Is ‘Carefree’ , Guitar/ Vocal Harmony Trio… Music From The 60's To The 90's. Carefree are replacing TOUCHDOWN from Liverpool re-scheduled because of uncertain weather conditions.
