Don't miss them... they are terrific... The Admiral Duncan Weekend…
Tonight, Wednesday, was the open mic night; there were several singers and guitarists; the host was Johnny Firth. He has a great voice and is an accomplished guitarist. Johnny introduced William Booth who is also an excellent entertainer, good voice and good guitarist, most of his songs were self penned, excellent William. "Pan", was there singing his own songs as was Ryan Johnson; he did sing a couple of covers one was ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’, one of his own was ‘Just The Two Of Us’. Bob Thomas and Mick Doonan from the Solicitors Soul Band called in with their instruments and sang a few Irish songs. What an excellent atmosphere. On Friday night it's a band called, “Incredible Magpie", a five piece band. They play their own material and rock and roll covers. On Saturday it’s the local four piece band ‘The Undecided’. see you there… The Spirit Of Smokie At The Horse & Jockey.

Gilly’s CMC Welcome Pete Jones I was a little later than usual going to Westgate Common and Gilly’s Country Music Club. When I did get there I was greeted by Roy, the lead singer of Stone Creek, (I did feel tall). On stage was Pete Jones who was dressed in a western outfit and looked great, He accompanies himself on guitar and uses backing tracks for bass and drums. Pete has a great voice which is and is easy listening style. Some of his songs were, Glen Campbell’s ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’, Buck Owens’ ‘Act Naturally’, Jimmy Buffet’s ‘Magaritaville’, I just loved his rendition of ‘Ghost Riders’ with the added sound of the Cows, Horses and the rest… What a performer, Pete Jones… A beautiful young lady was on stage tonight in a busy Albion Street WMC, (The Nash); Annie ‘B’ is the name, she looked great in a black top with a sequined front over black tights, (Lts). Annie has a lovely voice and carries good equipment, PA and Laptop for her songs; she chose the right songs. Some were, ‘What A Wonderful World‘, in the style of Eva Cassidy though I’m not sure Eva Cassidy recorded this particular song, there was the Oleta Adams song, ‘Get Here’, a couple of the Drifters songs, Andy Williams, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, I just loved Annie’s version of Jane McDonald’s ‘The Hand That Leads Me’. a lovely girl with a lovely voice, "Annie ‘B'".

Well, I ventured out tonight despite the Snow…The main roads were ok; I saw a couple of accidents on the way to Glasshoughton WMC, no one hurt though. The club car park was covered in snow but I managed to park safely. The concert room was very quiet but more people came in later. On stage was Dave Santana; whom I had seen a few weeks ago in Ricky Graham Leisure's Auditions. What a good voice this young man has; he was dressed in a dark suit and a white shirt, 'very smart'. The sound system is good and his tracks are excellent. Some of his songs were, Elton John‘s, ‘Something About The Way You Look Tonight’, The Andy Williams version of Neil Sedaka’s ‘Solitaire’, the song I liked and enjoyed most tonight was Bon Jovi’s ‘Always’. That is one fantastic song, there were a few more by Elvis Presley, Billy Ocean and many more… Dave Santana also does a Queen tribute show, I remember him doing a couple in the auditions; they were good. Go and see this young man in action… Dave Santana... Emily Shines In Pontefract Ex-Serviceman’s Club. The club was reasonably busy on this very cold night. Castleford girl Emily Peters looked fabulous in a silver & black sequined dress; (Lts). Her sound system is good and her songs were chosen for this mixed audience. She opened her show with Aretha Franklins, ‘Respect’, wow, that song really does suit her lovely voice. I have known Emily for many years, ever since she started singing really, she is a very confident entertainer and knows her way around a stage. More of her songs were by artistes like Tom Jones, (‘It’s Not Unusual’) that had the members clapping and singing along. There were songs by Elton John, Amy McDonald, (‘This Is the Life’), I loved that one, There was a Foundations song and many more. I love to see and hear, Emily Peters… |
