Glasshoughton WMC was very busy tonight when I arrived; on stage was the glamorous Kirsten Young. She looked good in a Short dress, white and sparkly at the top and black lace material for the skirt part. (Lts). Kirsten has a fine voice and good sound equipment. She chose her songs to suit the age group who were in the club. Her opening song was, ‘Breathless’by the Corrs followed up by a lovely rendition of the Carpenters, ‘Superstar’,I love to hear Kirsten sing that one. More songs were by, Patsy Cline, Dusty Springfield. The Real Thing, Marty Wilde, Yvonne Ellerman and Luther Van Dross. An excellent set from Kirsten Young... My first call tonight was to Ryhill Liberal club where I saw a very impressive set from the P 45’s. Craig and Anthony were immaculate in their stage wear, Black trousers, and white shirts with ties, black waistcoats and yes sir, Very smart. Their sound and lights were good. The voices and harmonies were a pleasure to listen to. They opened their first set with a Motown song, ‘I’m Doing Fine Now’, at the back of this very busy concert room were four young ladies dancing in sequence to the music. More of the songs were, ‘My Girl’, Boyzone’s, ‘A Picture Of You’, ‘Words’, a Bee Gees song and many more. I particularly liked the Garth Brooks song, ‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’sung in perfect harmony. Well done, Craig and Anthony, the P 45’s…
It was good to see chairman Den who made me feel welcome as do quite a lot of the members in Ryhill Club. Anthony on the left and Craig on the right of the picture... My next visit was to Crigglestone WMC.
Aga Do, Do, Do sang Dene Michaels when I saw him at Crigglestone WMC. It’s a shame there were not more people there to enjoy Dene’s party set. He did have some dancers on the floor. He opened the set I saw with Lionel Richie’s, ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’ followed by, ‘Feel The Need In Me’, a Detroit Emeralds song; Dene is a born entertainer and has such charisma. His stage attire was a multi coloured shirt with trousers and canvas shoes that ties in with the party image. Along came the Black Lace songs, ‘Aga Do’,’ The Music Man’, ‘Superman’that included Match Of The Day, Rocking All Over The World, Scotland The Brave and finishing with the title, I Am The Music Man’. Loved it! Dene Michael is the man for your party songs… Look out for Dene in the coming weeks on Sky Television and Loose Women on ITV 1… what a performer and a nice guy too. None Stop Action With Lee Lambert… The Common Road WMC in South Kirkby, near Pontefract was our first stop last night. The club has had a major re-fit since we were last here. Although it wasn’t very busy at 8 – 30pm, there were quite a good few came in later. On stage was that young singer from Leeds, (Morley to be exact), Lee Lambert. Lee looked immaculate in a suit, shirt and tie and Those Shoes… Wow! (Lts). Lee has a terrific voice, personality and range of songs to suit all ages. He opened his first set with a Beatles medley followed by a song from the Overtones. Lee certainly kept the members interested! They loved him. There a Tom Jones song that everyone just loved, ‘Sex Bomb’. Garth Brookes, Edith Piaf, Celo Green, Take That’s ‘Pray’. Leanne Disney, The Corrs and many more singers were featured. I particularly liked Lee’s version of Edith Piaf’s, ‘If You Love Me’. What a performer … Lee Lambert. Last night Lee’s parents, Dave and Debbie along with his friends, Tina and Jessica were getting texts and twitters because Lee was on Television on the X Factor Extra show. I saw it this morning and saw a very confident young man. The show will be repeated tonight! Don’t miss it… The Admiral Duncan, (100 Thornes Lane, Wakefield, WF2 7QX), was busy last night. The band there was Wakefield’s own’ Scratch Band’. They were in great form, the sound was good and there were lots of new songs in their show. The musicians in this band are well seasoned professionals. Stuart on bass and lead vocals, Steve on guitar and vocals, Mick also on guitar and vocals, Greg on guitars, (Rhythm and Bass) and vocals and
Martin on drums and vocals. Mick Linskey is on sound and occasional vocals, guitar and harmonica. The harmonies are excellent and their all round equipment is top class; an excellent band… It was good to see volunteers like, Ginner, (Bring It On Home) and Stan The Man who sang, 'Take It Easy'. See the Scratchmarks date sheet below… I would recommend this band for most venues and occasions… Last night I heard songs by Queen, Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, (Not the one I like best though), Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, The Beatles and Pat’s favourite band… (In capitals)... STATUS QUO. A super show from, “THE SCRATCH BAND”… Eastborough Club In Dewsbury was busy tonight; on stage was a lady from Halifax; Hayley Rose is the name. She has a nice voice and a good PA system. Hayley looked good in a black sequined top over black trousers, (Lts). She opened her set with Celine Dion’s, ‘I’m Alive’ and she could really hit the high notes. Her next song was a David Alexander song, ‘The Answer’; she did really well with that one. More songs were by, The Temptations, Abba’, Cilla Black and Dusty Springfield. This was my first viewing of Hayley Rose but I liked what I saw and heard… |
