Ferrybridge Progressive WMC welcomed an outstanding vocalist in John Fitzpatrick; as always impeccably dressed. (Ltps). John carries a good PA system and does a great job with it. The club wasn’t very busy at first but the members soon started to come through the doors and there was a good atmosphere. John opened his show with Matt Monro and Ringo Starr songs There we're some hilarious moments as John got into his stride; he does emphasise that he is not a singer / comedian but there were plenty of laughs. John sings a great mixture of styles that suit his powerful voice. The songs of ‘Take That’,’ Clarence Frogman Henry’, ‘Malcolm Vaughan’ were just a few. The second set saw John in a complete change of stage wear; agai,n looking very smart. The Tremeloes, Rita McNeil songs featured; after one of his songs by the Kings Of Leonne John was grateful for the "box" in the artiste’s dressing room for a rest. Tony Christie Elvis Presley songs were more of his songs featured. What a show from John Fitzpatrick. It was good to see John’s lovely wife, Sharon there, Danny and Arthur from Selby Railway club and as always the Chair Lady, Shirley, who always has a smile for everyone. I called in at a fairly quiet Morley WMC where I saw ‘Niteshift’ a, male duo made up of Jon and Neil who were dressed casually smart. Jon was on lead vocals and guitar with Neil on keyboards and guitar. Some of their songs were Amy Winehouse’s ‘Valerie’, Bryan Adams, ‘Summer Of 69, Bon Jovi’s 'Dead Or Alive', Maroon Fives. 'Moves Like Jagger', Bryan Adams ‘I Want To Run To You’, Bruno Mars 'Just The Way Are' were a few of their songs.
There were some nice harmonies in their show. I did say to Jon that the sound was bit on the quiet side and he said he would turn it up slightly; the result was much better. More of Nightshift’s songs were, Beatles songs, 'Help', ‘Can't Buy Me Love'. The Four Tops, 'My Girl', Chasing Cars'. Snow Patrol'. An interesting night of music from Niteshift… What a great and busy night at Gilly’s last night with a stalwart of country music “Mac Bailey” with Keith Moore making up the duo, 'Desperado'. Mac’s guitar picking is second to none with great tunes such as “Tennessee Flat Top Box”, a Johnny Cash classic. Keith who plays Bass and sings lead and harmony added to the evenings entertainment with “Streets of Baltimore”, written by Tom Paul Glaser and Harlan Howard.
Other songs that Desperado duo performed were “Nowhere Road”, a Steve Earl song, “Rockabilly Funeral”, A Bill Kirchen composition. If these guys are in your area be sure not to miss a great night’s entertainment. The Nash Welcomed 'Debbie Dee' to a goodish crowd;
Debbie appeared on stage looking rather glamorous, (Ltbs); she carries a good sound system and What a lovely voice Debbie has. I liked her open ending song, 'A Heartache Tonight'. Followed by a Matt Monro song, (Although I was advised that this was the Luther Vandross version),'The Impossible Dream'. A super rendition and passion in the song. There were the sounds of the 60's with a Dusty Springfield song and Rainbow's, 'Since You Been Gone’, I could have listened to Debbie All night. She sang a Whitney Houston song, one of her own favourites,’ I Have Nothing'. Well sung Debbie, Whitney would have been proud to hear you sing that.... Candy Staton''s "Young Hearts Run Free" was the song that got the dancers on the floor. The last song in the set was, 'All That Jazz' from the show cabaret. An excellent entertainer ... Debbie Dee ... Another song for the dancers was, Amy Stewart's ‘Knock On Wood’.You really have to see Debbie Dee in action folks… Sat 21 Sept - Admiral Duncan, Thornes Lane, Wakefield.

I saw Jonathan Carroll in Glasshoughton who told me about a forthcoming charity show in aid of The Prince Of Wales Hospice; the show will be held at the Roundhill club in Castleford. Appearing in the show, compered by Elli Gent will be, Stanz Alone, Amy Thomas, Jonathan Carroll, Dan Smith and Jamie McKnight.
Entry is by generous donation, there will be a raffle and other fundraising events... Amy and Jonathan are going on the Zambezi Trek and White Water Rafting experience and are looking for Sponsors. Please go along on Friday November 1st and give your support... Glasshoughton WMC was very busy tonight; the lounge had the Swansea v Liverpool football on Television. In the concert room on stage was the latest young sensational singer, Bethany Brookes. She looked good in a dress I’m not going to attempt to describe but it looked nice, (Lts). Bethany has a good strong voice, a good PA system and some good songs. The songs were by, Etta James, Celo Green, Amy Winehouse, Alana Miles and Adele. I liked Bethany’s version of Black Velvet, not heard that for a while. Well done Bethany... Outwood was fairly busy for the visit of the soft Rock Duo, ‘Red Rocks’. It was good to see Helen – Marie back with Brad Stevens. They were both dressed true rockers style and the voices were something else. (Lts on Helen). I discovered tonight that Brad is part of the Druids Inner Circle in Stonehenge. Well he has grown a beard and I think it looks good on him. On sound was ever reliable Carl who is, in my opinion, one of the very best sound men around. Some of Red Rocks songs tonight were Meatloaf songs, there was a Journey medley, (I enjoyed that), Mike and The Mechanics but the one for me, I like to hear Helen and Brad in harmony with ‘Sweet Child Of Mine’. Yes folks Red Rocks Rocked Outwood...
