Tonight I will be in the Albion Street WMC, The act tonight is the glamorous, Beebi Del. this lady is class. She has a tremendous voice and sings songs of different genres. Her stage outfits are beautiful too, just like the lady. herself. Like the shoes, Her opening song tonight was a country song, 'Silver Threads And Golden Needles', I loved the next song, 'Save The Best 'Til Last', A Vanessa Williams song and beautifully sung by this lady. I could listen to Bebe all night but I have to be somewhere after her set. There were songs from Diana Ross, Olivia Newton John, Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, this is the first time I've heard Beebi sing this particular song. 'Back Woods Barbie'. There was Song written by Dolly Parton and recorded by Whitney Houston, 'I Will Always Love You', she concluded the set with a Shirley Bassey song, 'Big Spender'.
A packed house again at Westgate Common, Sarah Gayle Meech was the Star on stage with her band, The UK Meech Boys, that's Simon Brady on guitar, mandolin and vocals, Jim Hand I bass and vocals, Barry Gaskell on pedal steel guitar with Frank Stewart on drums. A brilliant set up too. Sarah is all the way from Nashville, wow she has a terrific voice. She is the best Female Outlaw at American Awards, Austin which is run by Dale Watson. A lovely sound emanated from the stage. Well now, I didn't know many of the songs. The harmonies are excellent. There was a Buck Owens song, 'Loves Gonna Live Here Again'. 'You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man'. One I know was, 'A Good Hearted Woman', there was a Patsy Cline song, 'I Fall To Pieces', I picked up on a couple more, 'Stormy Weather', 'Love Of Mine', there were many more, if you haven't seen / heard this lady and her band, I urge you to look out for her. That's Sarah Gayle Meech. MONDAY NIGHT IN GLASSHOUGHTON.
The Artiste tonight is, 'Marty Jones', from sunny Crofton. He was dressed casually smart. He opened his set with a Roy Orbison song, 'You Got It'. Marty has a good strong voice and has a good knowledge of the history of radio hits. His next song was the Move's, 'Flowers In The Rain', 'Only One Woman'. A Graham Bonnet song, Sue Hyde , one of the regular customers here in the Glasshoughton club, spoke to me and said Marty is like a breath of fresh air. There was a song called, 'Since You've Been Gone'. Followed by, 'Mr Tambourine Man', One by the Byrd's. More songs followed in the set including a Queen medley. To close his set he sang, 'Suspicious Minds', for a lady who likes, Elvis Presley. As you know I don't name every song that an artiste sings and Marty certainly sang some I hadn't heard for a long time. A good set Marty Jones. Sue Hyde, a regular here in Glasshoughton Club said Matt Johnson Is a breath of fresh air, she certainly liked his style. He was in fine voice tonight. If you know Marty you will know he is in a duo called The Fabulous Baker Boys and is very popular on the clubs and pubs circuit. Tonight My First Call Was At The Prince Of Wales WMC.
The club which has undergone vast improvements was a bit on the quiet side but as time went on there were more people coming in. The act I saw there was Leanne, she has a strong voice, Leanne was dressed in a purple off the shoulder dress over black leggings, Like the shoes: Leanne opened her set with a beautiful cabaret style song','Lay Me By Your Side', the next song was a. Bryan Adams song, 'Everything I Do I Do For You'. 'Angels' a Robbie Williams hit, brilliantly sung by Leanne. I love Leanne's choice of songs. Songs by Take That, one from Queen was, 'Bohemian Rhapsody', her last song was,'I'm Feeling Good'. A good set from Leanne. My nexr visit was at the George The Vth Club in Castleford. It was nice to be welcomed by the Bingo caller mid game. On stage here tonight is Stacey Rhodes who looked terrific in a sparkly three quarter dress, black tights and, like the shoes that she discarded after showing me them from the stage. This club has a two sets policy whereby they get their comedy bingo in. The second and last set is at 9 - 45 for a 30 minutes set. Stacey opened her set with, 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'. Her voice was in good form tonight. Her next song, a Shania Twain song, 'From This Moment', one from Wanda Jackson song which is also an old Elvis hit, 'Let's Have A Party'. Cher was featured with, 'Gypsies Tramps And Thieves'. New Picture Tonight. 'Stacey puts the odd joke which go down well with the members' A good set from Stacey Rhodes. This is a new band for me, Warrior, This is a four piece outfit who play Rock as it should be played. They were already in action when we finally made it tonight. So, we didn't hear a lot but what we did catch was impressive, just a few were, 'Another Brick In The Wall', a Pink Floyd hit, there was 'Smoke On The Water', a Deep Purple song, (I have to admit I didn't know the bands who recorded these songs but my friend Mr Google did). There was one called, Black Night', another by Deep Purple.Well done you guys...
Yet Another Full House In Horbury WMC
The Entertainment tonight was that brilliant two male Soul and Motown duo, The Realistics; they were very smart on stage, they carry a big sound system and know how to set it, the light show was impressive too. The set was saw opened with, 'The Love I Lost', a Harold Melville And The Blue Notes song. 'I'll Go Where The Music Takes Me', this is a Jimmy James and The Vagabonds song. Then we had a couple of very funny jokes from Steve, (I'm having those), and Mark. Both have teriffic voices and the harmonies are something else.Another couple of their songs were, 'Ms Grace'. by the Thymes, 'The Snake' brought the Horbury club formation dances to the floor. What a super atmosphere. to close the set the Realistics sang a Real Thing song, 'You To Me Are Everything'. There were other songs but you will have to go and see, The Realistics" Tonight Is The Final Night To See Wakefield's Finest Band. THE SCRATCH BAND. they looked good in their stage attire, sounded good, good sound equipment and a good compère, Hey, that was yours truly. It was jut someone to bring on the band and guest singers etc. the place was packed at 8pm, we had a job to get a seat. I introduced the band and the applause was deafening and that was just for me. No, it was for the band, I have seen, Robin, Stan The Man and a few others in the audience. They sang lots of the songs the Scratch Band are noted for, 'Brown Eyed Girl'. There was Martin Ramsden on Keyboards, Stuart Wade on bass guitar, Martin Tagg on drums, Greg Hant on guitar, Mick Linskey on guitar, harmonica, Car Horn, and Steve Mounsey on guitar. Each one is an accomplished musician and good singers too. There were Elvis's, Songs, Buddy Holly songs, Country, pop, soul jazz, Irish music and lots more. I for one hoped it wouldn't be the final Scratch. Well I'm not writing too much 'cos I want to enjoy the music and the atmosphere which was wondeful. There was a Gary Barlow's song, well sung by Steve Mounsey. There was a Tommy Steel song and 'The Piano Man', a Billy Joel hit. There was a request for, 'Living Next Door To Alice', Robin Vickers was involved in this song with hilarious results. After the raffle, the band came back and introduced few volunteers. Songs by Showaddywaddy, 'Three Steps To Heaven', Stan The Man sang, Doctor Doctor'. The amount raised for the Wakefield Hospice will be announced Saturday or Sunday on the Scratch Band's Face Book page. The next vict.. sorry , Volunteer was Gilly singing a country song. Up came Robin to play a guitar solo of, 'Whiskey In The Jar'. Great stuff Robin. There were even more volunteers. There was Ginner, and Me but that was just for a giggle but I enjoyed myself. The Scratch Band sang a Soul Medley. It's a pity the band is ending after all these years. Ah well, I was there from the start to the finish. Gals and Guys, thank you for your support over the years. If I have missed anyone out a sure I will have and I'm sorry if I have but it really was hectic, as today goes on I'm sure I'll remember. nevertheless it was a super night. landlord Steve and Lorraine, his wife and the staff did a sterling job, thank you for your patience.
We had a good night in Crigglestone WMC tonight, we went to see a band I have a lot of respect for; that is Jeepster. Norry Church is the lead singer in the band with Terry Costello on bass guitar and keyboard, (sometimes at the same time), lead guitarist is Dave Wilson, and on drums we have, Joe Thomas. They opened with, '20th Century Boy'. There were four excellent musicians on stage tonight, (There always is with this band). There was a superb rendition of, 'Handbags and Gladrags', I liked Norry's. ' The First Cut Is The Deepest', there were many more but I think you get my drift now. Terry Costello sang a Showaddywaddy hit,'Hey Rock And Roll'. Jeepster closed this brilliant first set with Chuck Berry's, 'Sweet Little Rock And Roller'. Loved it...
