Tonight Is The Final Night To See Wakefield's Finest Band. THE SCRATCH BAND. they looked good in their stage attire, sounded good, good sound equipment and a good compère, Hey, that was yours truly. It was jut someone to bring on the band and guest singers etc. the place was packed at 8pm, we had a job to get a seat. I introduced the band and the applause was deafening and that was just for me. No, it was for the band, I have seen, Robin, Stan The Man and a few others in the audience. They sang lots of the songs the Scratch Band are noted for, 'Brown Eyed Girl'. There was Martin Ramsden on Keyboards, Stuart Wade on bass guitar, Martin Tagg on drums, Greg Hant on guitar, Mick Linskey on guitar, harmonica, Car Horn, and Steve Mounsey on guitar. Each one is an accomplished musician and good singers too. There were Elvis's, Songs, Buddy Holly songs, Country, pop, soul jazz, Irish music and lots more. I for one hoped it wouldn't be the final Scratch. Well I'm not writing too much 'cos I want to enjoy the music and the atmosphere which was wondeful. There was a Gary Barlow's song, well sung by Steve Mounsey. There was a Tommy Steel song and 'The Piano Man', a Billy Joel hit. There was a request for, 'Living Next Door To Alice', Robin Vickers was involved in this song with hilarious results. After the raffle, the band came back and introduced few volunteers. Songs by Showaddywaddy, 'Three Steps To Heaven', Stan The Man sang, Doctor Doctor'. The amount raised for the Wakefield Hospice will be announced Saturday or Sunday on the Scratch Band's Face Book page. The next vict.. sorry , Volunteer was Gilly singing a country song. Up came Robin to play a guitar solo of, 'Whiskey In The Jar'. Great stuff Robin. There were even more volunteers. There was Ginner, and Me but that was just for a giggle but I enjoyed myself. The Scratch Band sang a Soul Medley. It's a pity the band is ending after all these years. Ah well, I was there from the start to the finish. Gals and Guys, thank you for your support over the years. If I have missed anyone out a sure I will have and I'm sorry if I have but it really was hectic, as today goes on I'm sure I'll remember. nevertheless it was a super night. landlord Steve and Lorraine, his wife and the staff did a sterling job, thank you for your patience.
