Well folks, Tonight is the night when the well respected WAKEFIELD'S OWN SCRATCH BAND hang up their guitars and drumsticks, penny whistle, A Motor Horn, (The old fashioned one) and the sound system. I for one will miss seeing the band playing in our clubs and pubs. They will be joined by past members and volunteer singers and musicians. Come and help give them a good finale, they deserve it, they have done lots for charity. they appeared in one of my Wakefield Theatre Charity Shows a few years ago, this was for the Wakefield Hospice, we raised around £5,000 which was no mean achievment.
I would like to pass on our personal Thank You's for everything you, the band, have done for the Wakefield and beyond MUSIC SCENE.. Thank You, Mr T and Pat.. Thursday In The Nash. Albion Street WMC, Castleford.
On stage was a lovely young lady with a voice to match. Maxxine. She was dressed in black leggings and a black top, Like the shoes, I only caught part of her act. I was late getting there for the first set, a few of her songs were, 'Gypsies Tramps And Thieves' a Cher song and 'My Heart Will Go On'. This was a Celine Dion big hit and a Beyoncé song, 'One Night Only'. Our own Jane McDonald had a big success with this one. A good set from MAXXINE I will catch up with Maxxine for a full set in the future... Maxxine has promised to send me a photograph.. Blackpool Command Previews. It was a warm night in the club on tonight. Joe appeared on stage dressed very smartly in a black suit, a burgundy shirt, tie and great stage shoes. He has a good sound system. Joe has a fine voice and opened his show with, 'I Am What I Am'. 'December 63', (Oh What A Night'). He has a terrific stage presence that Lionel Blair would be proud of. There were lots more songs and a super variation. There was a Gary Barlow hit song, 'Let Me Go'. There was the song my wife 'Loves'. 'Mustang Sally', he more than made up for this with, 'Our Song', 'My Girl'. One song that I really liked was, 'I'm Feeling Good', Joe closed this set with a great Shirley Bassey hit song, 'We Don't Cry Out Loud'. A terrific set from JOE THOMAS. Joe's Grandmother commented on the decor and cleanliness of the club and Emma, the wonderful young lady on the bar. On Saturday 19th July, Joe will be singing in Carlton Social Club, He has been asked to sing on the same show as Billy Pearce in the Featherstone Rovers Cub in September. Great stuff Joe Thomas. Tuesday Night At The Nash. The artiste tonight is a young fella from Rotherham called, Wayne Steele. He was dressed top to toe in Black and that included his hat and glasses, Wayne opened his first set with a Boomtown Rats hit, 'I Don't Like Mondays'. Very good sound and backing tracks. 'Daydream Believer'. A very easy to listen sort of singer. There was a Bobby Darin song, 'Mack The Knife', I liked the Bee Gees song, 'Words'. Wayne sure brings out songs that people love to hear. More songs were by, Wilson Picket, Queen and some blues songs,we have something in common, we like Blues music; Wayne sings this style of music really well. He closed his set with with, Take That's,'Rule The World'.
Another full house at Gilly's Traditional Country. The artist tonight is Jet Taylor; I caught the second set, the sound and tracks were very good, his first song was '1,000 Miles From Nowhere'. One I haven't heard for years, 'All My Exes Live In Texas', this always goes down well so does a Hank Williams, 'Your Cheating Heart', sing along time with, 'Coward Of The County'. A good selection of country songs from Jet Taylor. Coming up folks is a Burl Ives song from way back, 'A Little Bitty Tear Let Me Down', love it. There were a few new to me, even some of the older ones. There was, 'Gypsy Woman', Don Williams sang this one. He closed his set with, 'Cats In The Cradle'. Yes folks, a good set from Jet Taylor. Glasshoughton Wmc Presents, Danny Tetley. Danny looked smart in a suit and shirt, like the shoes, a good sound and tracks,; he opened his show with 'Running With The Night', one of Lionel Richie's songs, coming up next, I'll Say Forever My Love' one from Carly Simons. Danny has put together a show that that includes Soul and Motown, coming up now is, 'Easy Like Sunday Morning ', Another from Lionel Richie and was also recorded by The Commodores. More followed but I like to have a good listen. After a shortn while, (For me), The Four Tops, featured with a couple of songs. Danny sure puts some life into his songs as he gets stuck into his show. I liked the Harold Melville and The Blue Notes song, 'If You Don't Know Me By Now'. Love this iPad, it knows in advance what the titles of the songs are. He closed this set with, a Jeffrey Osborne song, 'On The Wings Of Love'. 'A terrific show, DANNY TETLEY.
