Bradford based band, ‘Dillinger’, were In great form this week as they played to a packed crowd at Gilly’s CMC. Dillinger lead singer Mick Sagar fronts a talented band which includes Dave De’Coursey on bass, Billy Stevens on Lead guitar and not forgetting Alan Adams on percussion Which included washboard on a comical song called, ‘I Don’t Look Good Naked Anymore’, By The Snake Oil Willie band ..only recorded in 2014 ! All the members of the band have great voices for lead or harmonies. A couple more songs Dillinger performed were, ‘The Boys And Me’, by Sawyer Brown, and, ‘Born To Be Blue’, one from The Mavericks. With all the great songs, the bands jokes and patter, all amounted to a cracking night once again at The Westgate Common in Wakefield. If you want an out and out entertaining night .. Just go see Dillinger ! Next week, it’s ‘Blue Horizon’, yet another top band here in Gilly’s !
Star Search In Glasshoughton WMC. Four artistes tonight for the £1,000 competition. Opening proceedings was Harry Turnstyle, he opened with, 'Are You Ready For Love'. An Elton John Song. A few one liners to get us in the mood. There was a good crowd in here tonight who showed their appreciation for Harry. Harry introduced the first act, Andy Taylor, he looked very smart on stage, he has a good voice, like the shoes. In his set he sang,'I Just Want You To Dance With Me Tonight', a good lively opening song, his next song was a Plan B song, he sang this in a falsetto voice, another couple of songs from this fine entertainer.
Coming up next was a young lady called, Elise Taylor, looking good in a cream or is it pink coloured jacket, black top over black trousers/tights. Like the shoes. Elise has a lovely rich voice. After the interval, Harry opened with a Motown medley, after couple of one liners he introduced Sam Hoyle who was very smartly dressed in a suit, (minus the jacket), white shirt and tie, like the shoes. Sam has a good voice, which showed when he sang a couple of Michael Buble songs. He sang a song called, 'What You Waiting For'. He finished his set with another Michael Buble song, 'Feeling Good'. The final act was, Lucy Peters, she is from Wakefield? Lucy has a lovely voice, her opening song was, 'Thinking Out Loud'. She has expression in her voice and a good range. All new songs to me but good anyway. She closed her set with, 'I'm Yours'. Going on to the next round, Sam Hoyles, Andy Taylor and, Lucy Peters. Glasshoughton WMC Welcomes Trevor Craig.
Yes, the artiste tonight is a young man who seems to have been around for ever and still looks only 22; Trevor Craig is the name. He carries an excellent sound system and knows his way around it. Trevor opened his show with, 'Born To Love You', a Queen song. The voice is fantastic. His backing tracks are terrific too. Trevor looked very smart dressed from head to toe in black, like the shoes. 'Help Me Make It Through The Night', this was recorded by, Gladys Knight and the Pips, also Kris Kristofferson. A song by the Bee Gees was next, 'To Love Somebody'. here comes a song called, 'Love Hurts', recorded by several artistes. This next song was, Forever Autumn, one by Justin Hayward. Lots more came and the members loved it. Trevor Craig is a Star. It's been a while since I saw Trevor. I'm pleased he's back, he closed this impressive set with, 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'. The Prince Of Wales Welcomed Catherine Pemberton.
Another first for yours truly, this is a young singer from Ripponden, near Halifax. She looked good in a shiny striped dress, like the shoes. The voice is good; Kathryn opened her set with, 'Don't Stop Believing' , one by Journey. The next song was for me called, 'This Ones's For You'. Next was a Blondie song,'The Tide Is High', This young lady has quite a good repertoire, there was a song called,' Turning Tables', one from, Adele, this next song was her best one, 'Say A Little Prayer', one of Aretha Franklins better songs, (in my opinion). Other songs were by the Beatles, the final song was in fact a medley, well done Catherine Pemberton. Pontefract Sports And Social Club. The artistes tonight are a Motown duo called, The Fantastix. A two guys duo, Neil and Kai. They were in full flow when I arrived. Two great singers, well dressed in suits and shirts, like the shoes. Super note perfect harmonies. A couple of the songs I caught were, 'Something Old Something New',A Motown medley. An Elvis request was, 'The Wonder Of You'. Complete with the pelvis moves; a non stop show of singing and music. One I haven't heard for ages was, 'You Raise Me Up', this ended a super set, thanks guys. Neil and Kai. Barricade In Horbury WMC. Horbury Club was very busy tonight for the visit of Welsh comedy duo, Barricade, dressed in dark suits and white shirts, like the shoes. The comedy routines are hilarious. It's been around three years since they were last here where Pat and I saw them in Crigglestone club. Craig and Jonathon are the two guys in the Comedy / Vocal duo. Barricade. They opened their first set with, 'Brown Eyed Girl', the harmonies were superb and the crowd were straight in with the tra la la's. Talk about audience participation. Songs by the Everly Brothers had the same response, the choreography was very good. I'll keep the songs and routines to myself. You really have to see Barricade yourselves. There was a song by the legendary Frankie Laine that members joined in. The lights sequence was hilarious. The set ended with a Rita McNeil song, 'The Working Man'. Thank you Jonathon and Craig for some great entertainment, please come back next year. Taxi 4-7 in the Duncan tonight, this is a 7 piece band, all the girls in the band, (four of them) were dressed in blue and the guys in black. The first song we heard was,'Walking On Sunshine', a Katrina and The Waves hit, there was a Spencer Davis hit, 'Gimme Some Lovin', the band is very good and all the singers are too. I liked the song, 'Hot Stuff', a Donna Summer' song, then we had the Trammps, 'Disco Inferno'. Lots more, I was fascinated watching the swapping around to sing the songs. I liked, 'La Bamba', 'Twist And Shout', lots of rock and roll, and Motown, I like this band. Taxi - 4 - 7... A good night out for Pat and some of our friends. KAT - RUSS - HEATHER - WARREN - BARBARA - GERRARD - SARAH
Friday Night Out.
My first visit tonight was in Castleford to meet up up with Paul, The Pocket Rocket. He opened with, 'I'm Still Standing'. Paul's lights are, outstanding along with his PA system. Next came a Tom Jones hit song, 'The Green Green Grass Of Home'. Then, 'Come On Over To My Place', a Motown song. He is sure picking the songs in The Nash that people like. Paul, (Pocket Rocket), is going to buy me a J20 for this review but I won't be bribed by this superb singer entertainer, this song he is currently singing is a Lionel Richie song, 'Easy Like Sunday Morning'. There were lots more that we're going down the proverbial storm. Songs by Erasure, Gary Barlow, You can't help smiling when Pocket Rocket is on stage, he's a real happy entertainer. The last song in the set was one by Bon Jovi, 'It's My Life'. A great set Pocket Rocket... On to Ladybalk Social Club where the lovely Hannah Heart was the entertainment. I recently saw Hannah in a showcase in Heckmondwike, I was impressed then and I'm sure she will be equally good tonight. Hannah looked lovely in a short sequinned dress and a red feather boa around her neck: I liked the shoes, she opened her set, (The second one), with, a song called,'Hot Stuff', a Donna Summer song, she walked the floor with people singing along. Hanna has a lovely voice and moves well. Her next song called, 'All About Bass' in the 50's style. A Meghan Trainor song, 'Moving On Up', came next, an M People hit. I liked one called, 'Happy', a Pharrel Williams song. Lots more came in a good set by, 'Hannah Heart'. Now Available Through APPLE AGENCY;
