On stage in Brooke House in Wakefield was the immaculately dressed young magician, Thomas Anthony. Like the shoes, I'm not going to reveal his tricks because, I don't bl''dy know how he does what he does. He has a comedic side to his act, I happen to think he is a very accomplished entertainer. He has the look of Mr Bean, (Rowan Atkinson) in some of his stances. The long distance card trick was fabulous and so was the mind reading. I never heard Frank Sinatra's, 'My Way' performed quite like this. Brilliant Thomas Anthony. Only this week Thomas was asked to replace another Magician in Blackpool and fulfilled the job with great success. A very confident young man...
Here we are this beautiful Saturday night at New Brookhouse Club; it's a double bill here tonight with the lovely Stacey Rhodes and Magician, Thomas Anthony. First up is Stacey, she looks beautiful in her black and gold stage dress; like the shoes. Stacey opened her show with, 'From This Moment'. She carries a good sound system. Her next song was from the 60's, one by the Ronnettes, 'Be My Baby'.Dusty Springfield. Adele, Patsy Cline, Stooshie, Connie Francis all featured in her show. Stacey ended this impressive set with a Sinead O'Connor song, 'Nothing Compares To You'; I've not heard this for some time and Stacey sings it well. Another very confident performance from Stacey ************************************************************ After three attempts to see an act tonight I finally ended up at the Boot & Shoe in Ackworth. There I caught up with a rock band I saw a couple of weeks ago, 'Fiery Biscuit', is the name. They were in full swing and sounding good; they were singing a Spencer Davis number, 'Keep On Running'. There were two lovely young ladies dancing and I was told, 'to every song' they had played so far. It was like the Boot and Shoe formation dancing team, only two turned up). The band is excellent and as I have said on a previous occasion, 'What A Frontman'. The musicians are excellent too. I would recommend this band to any venue that likes rock music. The last song I heard tonight was a Doobie brothers song, 'Long Train Running' go and see for yourself when you see the band advertised. The owner of ,'The Boot' And Shoe is Les Thompson who does a great job booking different bands. Every first Wednesday of the month it's The Teri Sullivan band. That's a good night out. See ya there some Wednesday. There are lots more, just go and see his posters in the BOOT AND SHOW IN ACKWORTH...Near Willow Park Social. Ricky Graham audition night. Lee Kamen was here auditioning tonight, he was in fine voice and has a good sound system. His first song was a Simon and Garfunkel song, 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'Chasing Cars', a Snow Patrol hit song, Roy Orbison and Celine both recorded Lee's next song, 'I Drove All Night', good tracks, Lee was a member of Ti Amero, he sang lots of classical songs with this band, one of the songs was Andre Bocelli's 'The Prayer'. Lee finished his set with the Luciana Pavarotti's,'Nessum Dorma'. Amongst many other awards, in 2007 Lee was voted by the Live On Stage magazine which was very special to him as it was voted by the general public; he also gained the accolade of the best resident compere in 2001,2002 and 2003. Winning the Blackpool Talk Of The Coast in 2007 with Ti Amero was another highlight in his career. Look out for Lee Kamen in your clubs...I have to say, I love classical music and songs and Lee is one I will be going to see in a show, sooner rather than later... ************************************************* URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT

write a review for the Hull Daily Mail Star Search at the magnificent Hull New Theatre. The stage is really big and the dressing rooms are superb.. The compere tonight is Dave Norman who has compered this show for many years now. His lovely wife Vicky; looks after the sound and lights systems. The show started at 7 - 20pm with the Calvella dance troupe; an excellent opening.. The first act was a duo from Pontefract, Holly and Matt, they looked great in their stage attire, the voices gelled in the song ,'When You're Gone' a Bryan Adams hit. Good voices and note perfect harmonies. Next up,was a young lady I saw here in Hull last year, Grace Christiansen, she looked lovely and sang and played to an acoustic guitar a Simon and Garfunkel song, 'The Boxer', she changed from guitar to electric piano; she played this with some passion. well done Grace... Anya Rawlings was the third act up, she was dressed in a long white gown. her voice is very good. 'Diamond Are Forever' and 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' from the musical. "Evita", A good performance from Anya. Dylan James dressed in.smart suit shirt and tie. The background video was good, from the 60's rock and roll dancers, both his songs were unknown to me but Dylan sang them well, what a great voice. Sam Arkut, singer / guitarist who sang 'Here Comes The Sun', Sam has a good strong voice and I'm sure he will do well in the future. Next up was Barnsley girl, Beth Reddy, looking radiant in a long sequinned gown. Beth has a super voice, her first song was, 'The Show Must Go On', to sing a song like this with so much movement needs a radio mic, part way through her song the cable separated from the mic. Beth quickly picked up the lead and replaced it without missing a note. Her second song was, 'I Have Nothing', well done Beth. John Luke Bacon was next, he sang a rap song, don't ask me what the song was, I just don't know but the crowd were enjoying him... He did sing a Neil Diamond song ,'Sweet Caroline', in his inimitable style and had the crowd on his side. -Only one word describes JLB, WOW ! Opening the second half was Dave Norman who sang, 'When You Tell Me That You Love Me'. He introduced a trio called, 'Raw Kadence', this trio is one girl and two guys. One guy on guitar and vocals with the other guy on a beat box and vocal harmonies finally a young lady on vocals. The first song was, 'Breakfast At Tiffanys' and one of their own compositions, very good guys, Next was Katie Parsons, a lovely young lady with a very powerful voice, I loved he stage outfit, her first song was, 'One Night Only' followed by another I didn't know but whatever it was called I think this young lady has an absolutely fabulous voice. I was told after that the song was called, 'Show Me'. Next was a young From Priory road, Dean Wildbore, he looked great in a blue and white suit, he sang, 'The Answer',. Dean has a lovely voice with a good range, he reminded me of a comedian from the old days, Arthur Miller. Dean did a change on stage to a bright red pair of trousers and a whites, a la Meatloaf, he did sing, 'A Bat Out Of Hell' with a video of bats on the screen behind him. He even came on stage with a "Motorbike'This was bathed in coloured lights. (It was a mobility scooter). A Very interesting act.. Timeless was the next act, two young ladies one in a red dress and the other one a blue dress, in keeping with the name of the act they sang, 'In The Mood', one called 'Sing Sing Sing and a couple more in a medley. 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy'. A very different act. I loved, 'Putting On The Ritz'. Brilliant. I would like to see Timeless in an old time show. Jade Scott was the next act, she was dressed in a wet look short dress. Jade has a lovely voice which has a nice lilt in there. The song she song was, 'Going To The River', Jade's second song was another I didn't know. But it was very good. The next act was a trio called Euphoria, they sang an En Vogue song called, 'Don't Let Go'. I'm almost certain one the girls is Sami Lou, they went on to sing a song I didn't get the title of but it sounded good. Brilliant Harmonies. An excellent quality of voices and note perfect harmonies. Performing a guest spot was Emmie Craft, the winner of the 2024 Junior Star Search sang a song called, 'Hi Ho', I Hope. There was another that demonstrated Emmie's excellent range. 'That's Alright'. I'm sure Emmie will be competing in the senior section next year and will be strong competition. Just before the judges verdict we had last years senior winner, Callum Scott who came to sing a couple of songs. He has obtained lots of work since his win. Just waiting for the result now, I'm ready for me bed.... Here we go ... In third place it's.... Jade Scott.. In second place it's ... Raw Kadence... And in first place it's ...... Drum Roll .... GRACE CHRISTIANSEN .... Well Done Grace... Gilly's was well attended tonight, on. Stage was Dave Montana, he looked good in a bright red shirt over black trousers, like the shoes, I was just in time for the second set : Dave has a distinctive voice, plays a mean guitar accompanied by some very good backing tracks. Some of his songs were, 'My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You', 'California Blue', a great hit by Roy Orbison and one called, 'There Goes My Heart'. I didn't catch the name of the artiste but I liked the song. More songs were, 'Same Thing Happened To Me', a John Prine song, Red Sevine's, 'Days Of Me And You', Merle Haggard's, 'Ramblin' Fever' and Alabama's, 'In The Corner Of My Mind Stands A Juke Box'. Another top night of country music in 'Gilly's'. ************************************************ Cracklin' Rosie was the first sound coming from the Nash Stage tonight. Ricky Graham was here. He followed with a Matt Monro song, 'Walk Away', as always Ricky was immaculate in his stage wear, a sparkly shirt over smart black trousers, like the shoes. More songs, 'Avenues And Alleyways', A Garth Brooks song, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes', Ricky had the crowd in the palm of his hands here in Castleford. His publicity is very true,'Class Comes As Standard'. A Willie Nelson song, 'On The Road Again', one by Luther Van Dross. There was another another Neil Diamond song, 'Forever In Blue Jeans'. He closed this his first set with a David Alexander song, 'The Answer'. A first class set from The One And Only, 'Ricky Graham'... An old friend I hadn't seen got quite some time was in the club tonight it's the Singing Referee, John McAndrew. Good to see you John. |
