Friday 27th February.
Charity Show At Old Bank WMC Not Forgetting New Singer!! "Laura Goodhind". The Glasshoughton WMC was as usual busy tonight. There was a big
prize on the 'Find The Joker' card. The artiste on Stage was Ashton, looking smart in a dark suit, white shirt, like the shoes. Ashton has good sound and lighting and is represented by the Ocean Leisure agency. He opened his show with, 'Heaven Must Be Missing Angels' and, Don't Take Away The Music', in a medley, Ashton has a good strong voice, I didn't know all his songs but never mind, what I did hear were good. The next one I 'did' know, it was our song, (Mr & Mrs T’s) The Temptations, 'My Girl', there was,'Tiger Feet'. Many more to come, a very lively entertainer. 'ASHTON'. He finished the set with a Neil Diamond song. Ashton also sings in a male / female duo called, Ignition. Pictured Below:- ASHTON... The Prince Of Wales was my destination tonight; not a lot in but it's early yet, the room began to fill up as I spoke. On stage and as the lovely young lady, Bethany Brookes who looked great in a long sequinned dress. Beth carries a good PA like the shoes, her opening song was Adele's, 'Rolling In The Deep', Beth moves well on stage and chooses just the right songs for the members. She has a terrific voice range. A Celo Green song came next, 'Forget You'. The club is looking great with all the decor and stage improvements, the club steward is doing a great job here. Songs by Whitney Houston, The Crystals, The Chiffons, Norman Greenbaum, one by the latest young sensation, Sam Smith, 'You're Not Only One', Beth closed the first set with a Tina Turner song, 'Proud Mary', yes a good opening set from Bethany Brookes. The Admiral Duncan was very busy tonight, on stage was Big Day, a five piece band: there were quite a few strangers in tonight, most likely to be the followers of Big Day, who were in fine form. A few songs were, Snow Patrol's, 'Chasing Cars', Queen's, Radio Gaga', Peter Gabriel's, 'Sledgehammer', next please! Oh the next one was a Robert Palmer song, 'Addicted To Love', Bon Jovi's, 'It's My Life'. The next one was, 'Dakota', by the Stereophonics. Loud but good, I had to remove my hearing aids. The last song I heard, bearing in mind I took my hearing aids out, 'Play That Funky Music'. A Wild Cherry Song'.
More bands coming to the Admiral Duncan, Friday 27th it's The Kirkby Beats, Steamroller on Saturday the 28th, The Scratch Band on Saturday March 7th. More to come..... Tonight we are at Horbury WMC,
Onstage it's Marc and Louise Bolton who are the, 'Can You Feel It Show'. After their opening song Marc went into some comedy, and yes, it was, Very Funny, their sound system is top class and their voices are terrific. One of the songs was, Lionel Richie's, 'Penny Lover'. Louise B came on stage looking wonderful in a knee length navy blue sequinned dress and, like the shoes. Louise too has a super voice and she sang, 'At Last', one by Etta James. A Sixties Medley followed, Louise had the members singing along in good style and voice. She really does have super voice. In the medley was a song I haven't heard for years, 'The Leader Of The Pack'. The last song in the set was a Luther Van Dross song, 'Dance With My Father' which Louise and Marc sang in perfect harmony. At Westgate Common tonight, not over busy but the artiste on stage, Martin Gregory was going well and members were telling me that he is good. Well I concur, a very good singer. Martin is quite young and looks modern in his stage attire. He is very dramatic, Some of his songs were, 'You Say Goodbye I Say Hello', a Beatles song, a Roy Orbison song was, 'Only The Lonely'. There were songs by, 'Love Affair', 'Everlasting Love'. n Andy Williams song, 'Speak Softly Love', And 'Mrs Robinson'. there was a swing song, 'Ain't That A Kick In The Head,. A good entertains set from Martin Gregory... Martin Gregory is represented by. The Cee Bee Agency and comes from Sheffield. BIG DAY IN THE ADMIRAL DUNCAN...
100 Thornes Lane, Wakefield WF2 7QX A TOP BAND HERE TONIGHT. Saturday 21st February Happy Birthday Mike Linskey.
Alverthorpe WMC was the place to be tonight; its Mike's 70th birthday party. The actual date was on Tuesday 17th. To help with the celebrations, on stage were local bands, Big Time Charlie, and the Scratch Band. Well the club was very busy and Mike is a very popular man on the circuit. Big Time Charlie opened proceedings with a song called, 'I've Been Locked Out Of Heaven'. I didn't know it but it sounded ok. One by the Scissor Sisters'. 'Hey Soul Sister', there was an Andrew Gold song called, 'Lonely Boy', On stage next it's the man himself, Mike Linskey, he sang Queen’s, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love'. Stan 'The Man' was up next to sing a Robert Palmer song, 'Doctor Doctor', for which he gets 9/10, he didn't have a tie on. The band ended their first set with the Killers song, 'Human'. They didn't sing Agadoo though. Next on stage it's The Scratch Band who opened with Creedence Clearwater Revival’s, 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain', good harmonies in this opener, the next song was, 'The Breeze', a Beatles hit song was next, 'Nowhere Man', sung by Stephen Mounsey, Next was, 'Born To Be Blue', this was sung, on the night by Mick Larrad. There were lots of others that made the night. The last song we heard was the Johnny Cash song, ‘Folsom Prison Blues’. This was performed by the Scratch band plus Mike Linskey... It was good to see some of Mike's Biker friends here tonight.... Pat and I had a good night with Mike and his guests and thank him for asking us. |
