The Alexandra Club in Royston was my destination tonight; the concert room was fairly busy, first on the agenda was a Bingo Game. The artiste on stage to night was Rebecca Sparkle; she looked good in a long white dress, Like The Shoes. Rebecca has a good strong voice and carries a good sound system. Her opening song was one by Eliza Doolittle, the modern version of ‘Pack Up Your Troubles’, there was a medley of Diana Ross And The Supremes hits, ‘Third Finger Left Hand’, and a few more, one from the Ronettes, ‘Be My Baby’, An Adele biggie, ‘To Feel My Love’, Hey, that one was brilliant, Rebecca Sparkle ended her set with Luther Van Dross’s, ‘Dance With My Father’. A good show from Rebecca Sparkle.
Tonight I am at Carlton Social Club, near Lofthouse. The occasion is the concert Secretaries monthly meeting and showcase. The Compere tonight Andy Gale, he opened the show with a Rat pack song, 'Ain't That A Kick In The Head'. Andy is dressed immaculately in black trousers, shirt and tie with a spectacularly coloured jacket . Like the shoes. Andy introduced Lee Kamen. Lee was also well dressed in a black shiny suit and shirt, again, like the shoes, Lee has a fine voice and opened his part of the show with, 'The Power Of Love', a Jennifer Rush song. His next song was a George Ezra song, 'Blame It On Me'. A new one on me but I like it. Lee's next song was, 'Sex On Fire', 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'. He sang this in Italian. An Olly Murs song came next, 'Dear Darlin''. Lee ended his set with Andre Bocelli's, 'The Prayer'. Well done Lee Kamen.
Andy sang another song whilst waiting for the next artiste, he sang Van Morrison's, 'Brown Eyed Girl', then introduced guitar / vocalist, Teri Sullivan looking good in her stage outfit, like the shoes, Teri opened her part of the show with, 'Out Of Time', a Chris Farlowe hit,. One from Smokie, ‘If You Think You Know How To Love Me'. A Bob Geldof Song was 'I Don't Like Mondays', a couple of jokes that went down well. 'You Got your Troubles', was a song from the Fortunes, 'You're No Good', The swinging Blue Jeans recorded this one, blimey, Teri is really bringing them back, there was a joke to introduce the song, it was Queens, 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Her final song tonight was, 'Your Song'. A brilliant set from Teri, Big G was in the club and did a short comedy spot, I'm not going to repeat his jokes here. Andy Gale came back to sing a song, 'Real Gone Kid', a Deacon Blue hit song before introducing the final act tonight, Kerry 'M', who looked lovely in her stage outfit, like the shoes, Kerry opened her set with Jerry Le Lewis’s, 'Great Balls Of Fire', a quick change into a very short dress adorned with gold sequins, most of Kerry's songs were from the 50's and 60's era. Loved it. There was a Connie Francis's 'Stupid Cupid', there was. Ronettes hit, 'Be My Baby', 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' a Shirelles hit from the 60's. 'Young Hearts Run Free', one of Candy Staton's songs. Other songs were by Annie Lennox, and an Adele song, well done Kerry; She ended her set with, 'Proud Mary'. It was good to see Mike Hainsworth and his wife, Jan and their daughter Rachel in the club and it was also nice to see, Mike Carlton, Bonnie, Stacey Rhodes and Sven, and quite a few others I haven't seen for a while... Thursday March 6th is the date of the next Concert Secretaries Federation meeting and showcase in Crigglestone WMC Westgate Common was busy tonight, well it's Tuesday
well it is Gilly's Traditional Country music night, on stage is a duo, Phil Lloyd on rhythm guitar and vocals with Ken Durrans, on bass guitar and two great guys, good voices and harmonies, two guitars and tracks to cover the drums. I thought it was a comedy duo tonight, the laughs were coming thick and fast. Some of the songs were, 'Gypsy Woman', a Don Williams song, a George Jones song was, 'Book Of Memories', Larry Gatling’s, ‘The Better They Are The Harder They Fall'. 'The Working Man Blues','What Made Milwaukee Famous’, That was one by Jerry Lee Lewis. There were songs by Vince Gill; more of George Jones and lots of others. I know I have said it but these two guys are very funny but didn’t let the comedy get in the way of their great show. There were lots more songs and this appreciative audience just loved them. I know I did... Tonight in a very busy Albion Street WMC, (The Nash),
was Lindsay Dracass, from Sheffield. This is my first time seeing this young lady; Wow, what a lovely voice. She was dressed in a long black sequinned evening gown, like the shoes! The sound system is very good. Lindsay's first song was Celine Dion's, 'I'm Alive'. 'Mercy', a Duffy hit was next. I loved the Beverly Knight song, 'A Little Piece Of My Heart'. Lindsay has been singing for 28 years in the business, she sang in the Eurovision Song contest in 2001 at 16 years old, she was on tour with Paul Carrack and has toured all over the world and now, after having a baby, "LINDSAY IS BACK'. A Dusty Springfield hit song was next, 'Son Of A Preacher Man'. The members sang along with 'Re-Hab', Lindsay sure has a way with an audience, lovely personality. More songs the members were, I Heard It Through The Grapevine'. That was one from Marvin Gaye. Lindsay ended this, her first set with an Eva Cassidy song, 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow', a very good easy listening voice too. You can book Lindsay through the Alan Wood Agency... The King George Vth club in Glasshoughton, Castleford, was very busy tonight; the artiste on stage was, Catherine Cooper, she looked lovely in her stage outfit, like the shoes. Catherine has a good voice and knows the ones for her audiences. It was the second set I saw and heard and the first song in the set was a Take That song, 'Light My Fire', next was, 'Young Hearts Run Free', it's not often I hear a Candy Staton song, liked it. I have known Catherine a good few years and have watched her progress; she is doing really well. There were many of the audience coming to tell me how much they like Catherine. Makes one feel good. More songs were by Billy Ocean, The Killers, Olly Murs, and more. That's Catherine Cooper folks. |
