Hemsworth Miners Welfare Senior Citizens Party.
There was a full house e at the club which is known locally as, ‘The Pit Club’ this is an annual event where he members are treated to a nice tea and two entertainers. I saw the former concert secretary, Keith McIntyre who relinquished the job recently; he is looking well and we had a chat about old times in the clubs. The first act on stage was the two brothers, Robert and Paul, ‘The Sharpe Experience’.I have seen the lads many times and still have a good laugh; they have added some new material into the act which went down well. The second act was my good friend, ‘Simply H’, he was in good voice singing the songs the members liked and they were singing along.
The club’s stewardess Tracy Lucas, told me told about the bands that play on the last Saturdays of each month. This coming Saturday, the 28th it’s ‘Here’s Johnny’. On bank holiday Monday May 6th it’s ‘The Boyz’, a very popular band in this club. Saturday May 26th, a band called, ‘Band Of Brothers’ are booked and on Bank Holiday Sunday, June 6th, it’s the ever popular, ‘BeardSmith’.
From the Pit Club I called in at my local, the New Inn’, in Walton, Wakefield. This is an open mic night where you can be the star. I saw a gentleman called ‘Will Nicholson’. He plays acoustic guitar and it sounded very good, the chords and finger picking were excellent; Will also sang a few numbers, wow, what a superb voice! A couple of the songs he sang were, ‘Everybody’s Talkin’, ‘Ain’t No Sunshine and from Pogy and Bess, Summertime. You should call into the New Inn; I am reliably informed that it’s always a good night...
