My first stop tonight was at the Horse & Jockey in Horbury Bridge where I saw Johnny (The Fat Lad) Martell. I wish Landlady Karen Wharton’s customers would give her more support. John was in fine form with a few of his jokes and his voice. I have said before that if Johnny’s singing voice ever
failed him, (God forbid) he would still be a top drawer act as a comic.
A couple of his songs tonight were the Bill Withers song, ‘Lovely Day’ and ‘The Impossible Dream’. Good ‘uns Johnny.
Whilst in the H&J, Kayleigh Pearman was encouraged to sing a song from Phantom Of The Opera, ‘Wishing You Were Somewhere Here Again’. Kayleigh sang this song as well as "anyone" I have heard, it was absolutely wonderful Kayleigh.
I called in at the Lupset on Horbury road where I had a chat with the new Manager, Claire, Claire has booked some bands in for Saturday nights including Wakefield’s own, ‘Scratch Band’ on April 20th followed by a band called ‘Natural Rhythm’ and on June 8th it’s Styckleback. The Lupset has had a really good refurbishment... Food is served daily from 12 noon to 9pm and it looks and smells delicious...
My next visit was to the Nash in Castleford where I saw that lovely lady,
‘Melissa’; she is such a lovely singer. her links from one song to another are really witty and good. The club was very busy as it usually is.
Melissa looked beautiful in a short sparkly dress, (Lts). One of her songs was the Cher song, ‘Believe’. What a super show; well done that lady ...
My final call was in the Admiral Duncan in Wakefield; there had been a feast of music including....Matt Hodges at 5pm. Will Booth at 8pm and The Undecided at 9pm. The place was buzzing. Manager Kieran Hall told me it had been a very busy day...
