Saturday Night Out...
Our first call on Saturday night was at the Vegas Sports Bar which is at 85 Stanley Road, Wakefield, WF1 4LH. The owner Andy Appleton is staging bands every Saturday night. An unusual venue as it has lots of pool tables on the floor but with a little moving this and that here and there Andy has built a stage with a good PA and impressive lights and a star curtain at the back. On stage was Wakefield’s own, The Scratch Band. As always, on form with their own show. The place began to fill up around 8-30, some to listen and dance to the music and some to play pool though the tables near the stage were closed down. I hope this venture takes off for Andy and his partner the beautiful Jenny. With venues closing every day its good to see another opening! “The Vegas Sports Bar”,
Jess Garon in The Lupset.
Jess was on stage when we arrived at the Lupset; he has a good voice and sings the songs of Neil Diamond,(Sweet Caroline), Elvis Presley,(Burning Love) and the voice I though he was good at was Johnny Cash (I Walk The Line). Jess has a rich and deep voice, I don’t know if he already does one but a Johnny Cash tribute show is what I think he would be good at...
Next Sunday, the 16th Of January, the BeardSmith Family band will appear at the Lupset from 6pm... Don't miss this exceptionally talented band... Not forgetting Karaoke with Dave Craig on Friday nights...
Alverthorpe Club Welcomes “One Way”.
Our next call was at a very busy Alverthorpe Club where we saw a superb four piece band called, “One Way”. This is a four piece band we saw at the “Mercury Newspaper” awards show in Sheffield. A non stop show covering music and songs from the 60’s right up to the 80’s. The musicians in the band are excellent and the harmonies superb; there were plenty of dancers using the dance floor and any other available space. It was good to see a busy club once again.
Snapp At The Duncan…
The Admiral Duncan on Thornes Lane, Wakefield was fairly busy although we didn’t get there until 11-30 when most of the customers had gone, ‘up town’. On stage was The Snapp, another top Wakefield band made up of brothers Tim and Jez Howard along with drummer Chris Oldroyd. Three top musicians who play all styles of music. We have a lot of great guitarists in Wakefield and district that include these brothers. A couple of their numbers from last night were ‘Baggy Trousers’ and ‘A Town Called Malice’. Look out for .The Snapp.
