Full House At Horbury WMC...
Yes another full house at this very popular club; on stage was The Spirit Of Smokie band. This is a three piece acoustic band with Dean Barton on lead vocals and guitar, Andy Whelan on lead guitar and harmonies and Graham Kearns on bass and harmonies. Some of the songs were, ‘Lay Back In The Arms Of Someone’,‘Broken Stones’, (A Paul Weller song).
There were lots of Smokie songs as You would expect from this band. Dean’s voice is uncannily like his late father’s who would be very proud I’m sure...
Westgate Common was busy for the visit of Versatility, a male/female duo’ both well attired for the stage and in fine voice; the harmonies were very good and some of the songs were, Cee Lo Green’s ‘Forget You’, ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’. The one that did it for me was the Gladys Knight and the Pips song, ‘The Best Thing That Ever Happened’. I just love the sound of that lady's version...
Terry Webster In Fine Form...
This was the last night of entertainment for the Admiral Duncan in Wakefield; the brewery in its wisdom is closing the pub for refurbishment next week.
The artiste was ex Rocking Berries front man, Terry Webster’ I have seen Terry many times over the years and still laugh at his comedy and marvel at his impressions. He sings songs of, well just about anybody from the 50’s and 60’s and his impersonations of Tommy Cooper, Dad’s Army characters and lots more. One song that stood out for me was Chris Montez, do you remember ‘Let’s Dance’?. Well nobody I know ever got as near to that voice as Terry Webster...
