The Willow Park Social Club in Pontefract was busy tonight; there were quite a few artistes and agents there, Kim ‘B’, Sasha ‘T’, Mr ‘T’, (Oh that’s me). Thomas Henry, Big ‘G’, (Alias Throbbin’ Robin). ‘The Pocket Rocket’, (Paul), Richard and Al Crossland, Danny Harris, Christina Myers and of course Harry Turnstyle and Ashley Wheelhouse and more. It was like Who’s Who.
Chair Person, The Jovial 'Bill', introduced the first auditionee, the Re-Searches, a smartly dressed 60’s duo with Travis on lead vocals and guitar and Bob on drums and harmonies. Two fine entertainers who had good voices, repertoire, and a good sound. A couple of the songs were, ‘Needles And Pins’ and ‘He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother’.
Next up was Pete Bodene who was dressed in black, (shades of Johnny Cash). Pete does in fact sing country music and really well too. Tonight he chose to sing, Roy Orbison’s, ‘You Got It’, Dean Martin’s ‘Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime’, and a good ole country number, ‘heartaches By The Number’. Loved it, Pete Bodene...
A young lady called Rachel from Halifax was next on stage; she has a beautiful voice and sang some good ballads starting with, ‘Stormy Weather’, ‘Summertime’, ‘Autumn Leaves’ and ‘At Last’. As I said, Rachel has a lovely voice and chose the song that suited her. Rachel would, I think do really well in Musicals...
The next artiste was James Wilson who has a terrific voice and dresses smartly, he has a voice not unlike Gene Pitney as he showed when he sang, ‘I’m Gonna Be Strong’. More of his songs were, ‘Shang A Lang’, Under The Moon Of Love’ and Take That’s, ‘The Flood. What a voice, James Wilson has...
The final act was David Santana; every time I see the name Santana in our clubs I think of Barry and Jim Santana, both good singer/entertainers and David is yet another destined for the top. His songs included, 'Sweet Child Of Mine’, ‘Hallelujah’, the Leonard Cohen version. A medley of songs by Erasure and a nice version of Dr Hook's, 'A Little Bit More'. David finished his set with the Stereophonics, ‘Dakota’ .
A top night of auditionees, it’s not a competition and every act gave a good account of themselves...Pictured below:- david Santana and James Wilson... Waiting for more...
