The Quarry Pub in Horbury was the place to be on Friday night; the place was very busy for the visit of Lewis Matthews. He looked great on stage, he carries an excellent sound system. Lewis has an excellent voice. Some of his songs were, 'Heroes', 'Walking In Memphis', more of his songs, a Willie Nelson country song, 'On The Road Again'. Enjoyed that one, I just love country music. A Beatles song, 'I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends'. There were a few one liners that went down; just one more of his impressive set was, 'When You Say a nothing At All', for me Lewis is good entertainer who would fit into most venues, a pleasant personality and a good mix of songs. The pub manager is a lady called, Michelle, a lovely lady who pointed out the fact that there are solo acts and bands booked into the Quarry. Next week it's Carn Ryder an Elvis Presley Tribute singer; don't miss him... Over at the *Admiral Duncan*, I saw a rock band from Barcelona. I have to say they were, for me OTT. I did recognise their first song, 'I Was Born To Rock', the stage outfits, very different,, the drummer was very good but looked ghostly to me, the lead singer had a, well. A rock singers voice, think of Joe Cocker, he is a good bassist and the lead guitarist is very good too. a very good show band. I recognised a couple of the songs, a Beatles song, 'Get Back' but a very heavy version, David Guetta's,'Down Down Down', again very loud and heavy. just another couple of songs; 'Lost In The UK' and, 'Join The Party. The pub was very busy so that's good for the Admiral Duncan, YES ? Tonight's Band'

He looked very smart in trousers, waistcoat and a shirt. Gary Barlow's, 'Let Me Go' was his opening song; a Sammy Davis song 'Mr Bojangles', followed, after a song by Dan Hill. Ricky introduced the first to audition who is from Manchester, Sophia Leonard; Sophia looks good in a knee length multi coloured dress, like the shoes. Her first song was a Nina Simone song, 'Feeling Good',(You Know I Feel), an Etta James favourite, 'I Just Wanna Make Love To You'. Sophia has quite a repertoire of songs to match her voice. A Frank Sinatra song was, 'My Funny Valentine', Sophia sang Tina Turner's, !Proud Mary'. And Adele's 'Skyfall'. Our next entertainer was Lucy Emma from Cheshire who has has sung all over Europe on Cruise ships. Her first song was from the film 'Frozen', 'Let Her Go', then there was, Eva Cassidy's, 'Over The Rainbow',. Lucy looked beautiful in a knee length silver sequinned dress, like the shoes. Songs by Dusty Springfield, Heatwave , and finished with, 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough', the Diana Ross version. (Sorry Lucy). A good selection of songs and a good performance from Lucy Emma' It was nice to see Michael Hainsworth, Rachel Hainsworth and Steffi Ackroyd. Good company for me along with compere Ricky Starr who is a very good compere.. Well done Ricky... Part two. Ricky Start came back to sing a couple of songs, 'Human' was one, and 'Something Inside So Strong', he introduced a Ska Band. Called, 'Ska House', they all looked smart on stage in black trousers and black shirts with white silk ties. the first number was, 'A Message To You',. From where I was sitting I could see three guitars, bass and rhythm, two trumpeters, a drummer, a saxophone player, a keyboards player who doubles on guitar and a lead singer. I liked the tune, 'Tequila', this was a big hit for the Ted Heath Orchestra back in 1958 but I think maybe it was the Champs version Ska House were playing. there was Toploaders, 'Dancing in The Moonlight'. Dexys, Midnight Runners, 'Come On Eileen'. There were more songs from this energetic band. Very enjoyable... The Nash was busy tonight,(Again). The artiste tonight is, Danny Tetley. His sound system is good. Artistes who appear in this club don't need to bring their lights because the club's stage lights are good. Unfortunately Danny was late arriving due to the fact he was a replacement. I just caught a few of his songs and then had to be on my way, so..... For his opening songs he sang a couple of Marvin Gaye songs, 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine', and 'Abraham Martin And John', good quality backing tracks. A few one liners which were going down well. His next song was, 'Blue Moon', the Marcel's version. he sang a medley of songs by the Stlistics Danny was going well but unfortunately I had to leave... Well done Danny Tetley... Gilly's CMC once again drew a full house for the visit of Desert Wind, a three piece outfit: three guitars, bass, lead and rhythm, three good singer and anyone of them could be the lead singer. The three piece harmonies were brilliant. There were people coming to tell me how good they were. Well I totally agree, I like a good acoustic band. Some of the songs. I heard were, 'Batten Rouge', a Guy Clarke song, 'Miles And Miles Of Texas', this is a Bob Wills song and 'The Carolinian' by The Chattem Country Line'. For the very best in country music, go to Gilly's CMC here in Westgate Common WMC, every Tuesday night but remember folks, as Gilly says, 'Gerrin Early" for a good seat.
