Hi folks, I had a hard couple of days and as I have lots to see and do over the weekend and into next week, I decided to have a night in with Mrs T tonight. Back tomorrow night... Trevor, (Mr T)... Audition night at Willow Park WMC. Not many in the club tonight and only two acts auditioned tonight. First up was Traci Lane from Morley, Traci has been around a few years and still has great voice and a super personality. She is always well dressed for the stage; black trousers and a black sequinned top. (Lts). Traci's first song was The Who’s ‘Substitute’. an Elkie Brooks song, 'Pearls A Singer. An excellent voice, very clear and a good pitch. There was a song by Labi Siffrie’s, 'Something Inside So Strong’, ‘Stuck In The Middle', The Louise version, 'Ooh Ah Just A little Bit More', sung by Gina G in the Eurovision Song Contest a few years ago. Traci finished her set with her own favourite, ‘A Good Looking Woman'.
The next act was a trio of young ladies called, ‘The Melodies’, Charlotte, Sophie and Emily make up the trio, lovely looking girls, (Don't tell Pat). The girls looked good in matching short blue dresses, (Lts). They'd opened with, Sushi's, ‘Come See About Me', Aretha Franklin's, 'Say A Little Prayer', The Ronettes, 'Be My Baby', some lovely harmonies and good choreography. 'Young Hearts Run Free'. 'Proud Mary', Tina Turner Style. I just loved the harmonies. A Take That song was, 'Rule The World'. The melodies sang a few slower songs. Well only two acts but the people who were there enjoyed both acts, and so did I. The Horse Vaults Welcomes,’ Roy Orbison’ Tribute Show...
The Pub was very busy tonight; It was good to see Gary Lane on the record decks playing house music and compering proceedings. Anthony Lauren appeared as Roy Orbison; I met up with my good friend, Elli Gent who is a very funny lady and, make no mistake Elli knows her stuff. Elli is a reviewer for the West Riding Review and does a great job. Roy,(Anthony), appeared on stage looking like the great man and he does look and sound like him right to the Orbison trade mark, the dark shades. He opened his show with,” Only The Lonely", followed by 'Dream Baby', 'Blue Bayou', 'Pretty Ribbons’. 'Candy Man' , 'A Love So Beautiful', 'California Blue', were just a few of Roy's songs. There were many more; Elli and I loved this guys voice and were content to listen to his music. I have seen and heard a few Roy Orbison tributes in my time and Anthony is there up wit All the big songs were there and some a bit more obscure. Yes John Mycroft, you were right, an excellent Roy Orbison tribute. Another Busy Night In The Nash.
The Nash welcomed Patrick Ellis who is lead vocalist with the band, Heroes. Patrick has a fine voice, he dresses smartly for the stage. Patrick opened his set a Queen song, 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'. There were songs by Sinatra, Billy Fury, Matt Monro, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, this his best song for me, (I Just Can't Help Believing)', Scott Walker's 'Make It Easy On Yourself', not heard that for some years but it went down well. Bobby Darin's 'Dream Lover’ was a favourite for me. There were many more featured artistes from all eras. Patrick's PA sounded good, a nice easy listening show... Patrick Ellis. John Aston was the attraction at Gilly's CMC tonight; he has a distinctive voice and sings what the audience want to hear, after all Gilly's members are listeners. John is always immaculately dressed for the stage. A few of his songs tonight were, 'Wherever You Go We Go Amigo', a terrific backing track and John on acoustic guitar. A few more were, 'What's Going On In Your World', 'South Of The Border'.’All My Exes Live In Texas’, George Strait’s, ‘She’s Just Getting Even’ and Joe Diffie's, ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’,
Lots of the members take raffle prizes for Gilly's Raffle; if you have anything you would like to donate bring it along on Tuesday night, you never know, you might win it back... The picture shows John Aston and Mr T... Just Two More Preview Shows For;
