Pontefract Sports & Social Club.
It was a very busy club on Wednesday night when the 7th and final preview show for the Blackpool Command show was staged. The first act was Pontefract girl singer/entertainer Ellie Gent who was unfortunately suffering from a bout of influenza. She was dressed in a long grey evening dress which changed in appearance under the light. Ellie was also wearing her now famous bed socks, (What Have I Started? She Doesn’t Like Shoes). In her set she sang Meatloaf’s‘ I Would Do Anything For Love’ and a nice up tempo of, ‘Sometimes When We Touch’.
Vincent is a singer/guitarist from the Selby area. He looked great in a black outfit adorned with a silver pattern and a diamante belt. Vincent has a good voice and is good on guitar. ‘You Just Haven’t Met Me Yet’and a superb version of a Neil Diamond song, ‘Play Me’.
Sugarush, from South Elmsall, is a bubbly and very entertaining girl trio who were dressed in crisp white trouser suits. Three good voices in harmony as they sang their own version of ‘He’s A Soul Man’ and a lovely harmony version of Adele’s, ‘Make You Feel My Love’.
After the interval Hull born Andy Jay, (Now living In Wakefield) appeared on stage.looking very dapper in silver/grey trousers and a white shirt. Andy has an outstanding voice and sang in his set, ‘With Or Without You’ and Daniel Merryweather’s, ‘Red’.
Enter all the way from Nantwich that GMTV'ssix piece family band winners, ‘BeardSmith’.They were really on form; opened with a demonstration of their musical ability when they played, ‘Wipeout’. They played a cross section of songs to show their versatility, there were six part harmonies in a couple of the songs’. ‘Come On Eileen’ and ‘Staying Alive’ brought a standing ovation...
As I have often said, Alan, Brian and Colleen have an enoprmous task on their hands along with the concert secretaries in Blackpool... We have seen and heard some outstanding talent in the shows; just who will get the nod?
