Katie - Jo
What a night at the Babes In The Wood. Public House, Leeds Road Dewsbury...
This was a terrific night for a charity called ‘Cold Cot Campaign’; for still born babies to spend more time with their family; tonight’s show was in memory of Finley Child. It’s a charity I don’t know much about but the people on the show were giving their time free. Well done guys and gals. All the artistes came from the Mayfare Agency...
The show was compered by Katie-Jo Cooper who is half of the duo, Duplicate. She looked lovely in a short silver dress over black tights and LTS. Katie has a lovely voice and will be appearing in the ‘Blackpool Command Show’ with her duo partner Lee next month. She opened with a couple of songs, the first one being an up tempo version of, ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ and the second was a nice version of, ‘Always On My Mind’. Katie-Jo introduced on stage, the superb Tony Christie tribute entertainer, Tony Styles; he really is very close to the sound of the great man. What a voice! In his set Tony sang, ‘Avenues And Alleyways’, ‘Night Of 1,000 Stars’, Daniel Boone’s, ‘Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast’and Show Me The way To Amarillo’. A superb set from a very smartly dressed Tony Styles.
Next up was Graham Stevens dressed as Paul Heaton, (he must have had a sweat on), who sang with the House Martins and The Beautiful South Bands. In his set Graham, (Paul) sang one called, ‘Song For Whoever’, ‘Sail This Ship Alone’, ‘ Manchester’ and ‘Caravan Of Love’.
There was an interval for the raffle draw and auctions in which the auctioneers were the Landlords Brian and Jerry. There were lots of prizes donated, (NO, I didn’t win, not one).
After the fund raising session, Katie-Jo introduced a smartly dressed John Fitzpatrick to the stage. John is a Matt Monro tribute entertainer and has a terrific voice. In his set he sang, ‘How Do You Do’, ‘From Russia With Love’,‘Born Free’, ‘My Kind Of Girl’ and more; John finished his set with, ‘Softly As I Leave You’. The final act was a relative newcomer to our clubs, Milli Simpson. This lady has a good strong voice and gets better with every performance; she has a wicked sense of humour and isn’t afraid to poke fun at herself. In her set Milli sang, ‘Summer Of 69’, ‘Run Around Sue’, ‘Please Remember’ and a super version of Adele’s, ‘Someone Like You’. What a superb show which raised in excess of £1,000.
Usually I don’t stay in one place very long but I was enjoying the show and stayed longer than I had intended. there was so much fun, laughter and some wonderful music....
