Wow, what a great night out for Pat and I on Saturday night; we were in a busy Westgate common club for a double helping of entertainment. The first act on stage was Castleford’s Emily Peters; my, how this young lady has progressed into a fine entertainer. Her stage attire is superb and I Lts... Emily opened her show with a Tom Jones number, ‘It’s Not Unusual’ that went down well with the members; more of Emily’s songs were, Elton John's ‘I’m Still Standing’, Rainbow's ‘Since You Been Gone’, Journey’s, ‘Faithfully’ and Adele’s, ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ and what a lovely version this was. Well done Emily...
Next on stage was young man from Thorne, near Doncaster, Mark Ellis. He was smart but casually dressed; he has a tremendous voice with a good range; his facial expressions are so funny and his overall presentation, excellent. Mark sang some great songs in his set that included, ‘Back To Black’, ‘Together In Electric Dreams’, ‘Mack The Knife, and ‘Cry Me A River’. You really have to see these two excellent entertainers who were both at their best...
We finished our night at the Horse And Jockey in Horbury Bridge where landlady Karen had booked Wakefield’s own, “Scratch Band”. As usual they had volunteer singers in Stan The Man, Ginner and former band member, Mick Linskey; all in fine voice. Some of the band’s songs were, ‘Nowhere Man’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’, a couple of Smokie and a Status Quo medley. I liked the last song of the night, ‘More Like the Movies’, a Doctor hook song that the late Frank ‘Heppy’ Hepworth used to finish his night off. Yes folks, a great night for Mr and Mrs ‘T’...
