Staincliffe Cricket Club was the venue for this get together for Mayfare acts. The club was very busy and the Mayfare people were in fancy dress On stage were Linda and Steve Who are Active Edge; they were “Getting The Party Started”. It was Steve’s birthday too, there were “Volunteers” press ganged into doing a bit; one was Milli Simpson, a new face in our clubs, Milli has a good strong voice, a nice smile and personality and will go far. She sang a Bryan Adams song, ‘Summer Of 69’. Well done Milli.
Next up wasBeautiful South and House Martins tribute singer, Graham Stevenson,
(Who either was dressed as a hippy or Cher?), sang ‘Happy Hour’. Another good
performance from Graham. Matt Monro tribute singer, (Or was it one of the
Beatles)? John Fitzpatrick sang, ‘From Russia With Love’, another good one from
John.
Enter 118 - 118 in the form of Tony Stiles’ Tony is I would say the best Tony Christie tribute I have heard. He sang a Daniel Boone song (from 1971), ‘Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast’, and still sounded like Tony Christie. That was the first time I have heard anyone sing it as good as that since the days of the great Derek Armitage. Tony should record this one.
Our next singer was young artiste Heidi Mills who is a Pixie Lott tribute singer and rising young star, Heidi sang Connie Francis's song,‘ Stupid Cupid’. Well done Heidi.
Up next was the lady with the 'Bubbly Personality',’Bubbles’ (aka Julie Blackburn). I have a lot of admiration for this lady; she has a super voice and has a great sense of humour. She sang a Bon Jovi song, ‘In These Arms’. Well done there Julie…
The last singer I heard was the club’s concert secretary, Gary Fawcett who is quite a character. Earlier he had been entertaining some of the younger people including yours truly with a ventriloquists dummy called, (Sorry Julie) Bubbles. Gary sang a Jim Reeves song ‘Distant Drums’. What a swell party by Mayfare;
