Carrie Michaels In Eastborough WMC.
Carrie, as usual, looked like a model on stage tonight, she has had some bad
times if late but is getting back to her best. Anyone who knows Carrie will know
what a super voice she has 'and' great stage presence. With Jeanie, her mum on
sound and backing vocals we are in for a great night of entertainment. Carrie
opened her show with a very apt song, a Carpenters song, 'Top Of The World'.
All Carrie's songs are very cleverly linked. One from the USA, Arthurs Theme, ('The Best You Can Do'). Carrie certainly pulled some songs out if the bag tonight, it was an older audience and Carrie had a look round the room for the age group and chose the songs accordingly. The one she is singing right now, 'Native New Yorker', was going really well and received a great round of applause. 'Love Story', was featured and she dedicated it to Pat and I for our recent Golden Wedding Celebration. Carrie certainly puts everything into her songs. I loved Jeanie's backing vocals. Motown, ballads, a couple in disco tempo were all featured in this impressive set and I have seen Carrie in lots of shows over the years. Her final song in the set was from, 'Sunset Boulevard', 'As If We Never Said Goodbye', in the style of Barbra Streisand. A terrific set from Carrie Michaels..
The Prince Of Wales was my second stop tonight; it was the first of the Friday night Rock & Roll nights. These nights are planned for the last Friday of each month. Tonight was Hull band, Jive Express; the attendance tonight was quite good for the first band show. In between the band's performances there is a rock and roll disco show. It's not often your Duane Eddy's, 'Rebel Rouser', and Chuck Berry's 'No Particular Place To Go' but folks you could help get this night off the ground. Friday25th of July is the next show with The Memphis Jacks from Doncaster. If you like good old Rock And Roll, then the Prince of Wales Club on Ferrybridge Road ,
Pontefract, West Yorkshire. WF8 2PG.
I had a listen to the band, they opened up with the Shadows, 'Apache'. They have a good sound, lead guitarist Eddie Twang is a good 'un. They played one of my
favourite Rock And Roll songs, 'Shakin'All Over' a Johnny Kidd and the Pirates song, Del Shannon's, 'Run Around Sue'. There were lots more of my old favourites. A good line up with, lead, rhythm, bass, drums and a great sax player. A terrific and very entertaining band. So folks, if you like your. Rock And Roll, it's the Prince Of Wales on the last Friday of every month. Entry is £5, great value.... See you there...
