Westgate Common was busy tonight for the Wakefield, Pontefract & District Concert Secretaries Monthly Meeting & Showcase. The show was presented by Doncaster lady, singer and radio presenter, (Sine FM) Madeleine Roberts. She opened the show with a song, ‘Da Do Ron Ron’. The first act Madeleine introduced was Hull lady, ‘Chrissie’ who was wearing a leopard coloured dress and Diamante Leggings and LTB... (they glittered). Chrissie opened her show with the Olly Murs song, ‘Dance With Me tonight’. Chrissie has a good strong voice and she moves well on stage. More of her songs were, ‘At Last’, and Etta James song, there were a couple of Tina Turner songs and a Timi Yuro song , ‘Hurt’. I loved that one.
Next was a three piece band from Leeds called The Memphis Cruisers with Jeff on guitar, Tony on drums and Dave on double bass. The stage outfits were as you would expect, in the 50’s rock and roll style complete with brothel creeper shoes. Some of their songs were,‘Flying Saucers Rock And Roll’ and ‘Tennessee Zip. There were many more and they soon had dancers on the floor.
After an interval Madeleine came back on stage, she sang, ‘Twisting The Night Away’, in the Sam Cooke style. She introduced 18 years old Leisha Marie from Doncaster. Leisha was wearing a short white dress and (Lts). She has a good strong voice and chose to sing, ‘I Drove All Night’, in the style of Celine Dion, ‘I’ll Never Forget You’, by the Noisettes and Journey’s, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’.
The final act was Hugh Roberts from Doncaster who was dressed casually smart; Hugh is a vocalist and guitarist. He opened his show with an instrumental, with backing tracks playing the lead part of ‘Wipeout’. There were songs by Celo Green, ‘Never Forget You’ , Herman’s Hermits, ‘There’s A Kind Of Hush’ and Bobby Darin’s, ‘Things’.
Yes folks, a good show well presented by Miss Madeleine Roberts...
