Concert Secretaries Meeting And Showcase...
The Sports & Social Club in Pontefract was quiet tonight for the showcase compered by Debbie Marx. Debbie opened the show with a lively version of ‘Moving On Up’, before introducing the first act; Brian Day who has been in the clubs for around 30 years. He was wearing black trousers and a shiny black shirt... some of his songs were, Eddie Cochran's, 'Three Steps To Heaven’. Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ and Elvis Presley's 'Little Sister'.
Next was a lady I saw last year who comes from Scunthorpe called Laurie Anna; she was dressed in a multi coloured outfit. Quite a zany lady who was quite a comedienne. A couple of her songs were, ‘Hanky Panky’, ‘Be My Baby’ and a hilarious version of, ‘Tell Me Ma’.
Debbie opened the second half with ‘Human’which had the audience clapping along; she introduced Hayley Belle, a lady from Doncaster who looked good in a short floral dress with a dipped back, (Lts). Hayley has a lovely voice and sang in her set Julie Covington’s, ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’, Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’, Emile’ Sande’s, ‘Next To Me’ and a rousing version of Doris Day’s, ‘Que Sera Sera’, I enjoyed that, it brought back some special memories for me...
The final act was Resonate, a two boy instrumental duo also from Doncaster; although they are pretty good musicians I felt their guitars and keyboards wanted turning up to give more impact to their songs. They sang in their set, ‘You Gave Love A Bad Name’, ‘Spirit In The Sky’, and ‘Mustang Sally’...
Debbie Marx did a fine job as Commere... well done love...
