Wakefield, Pontefract & District Concert Secretaries Monthly Meeting...
The meeting was held at Ladybalk Recreational and Social Club in Pontefract on Wednesday night where there was a good attendance. After the meeting Jonathan Carroll compered a show case. He opened with a Michael Buble song, ‘Feeling Good’. He introduced young Castleford singer, Stephanie Sweeting who looked lovely in a short red sequined dress over black sparkly leggings, (Lts). Stephanie has a good voice and sings the songs to suit her. Some of her songs were, ‘Because The Night’, ‘Walking In Memphis’, ‘Born To Be Wild’ and the one I liked was, The Dixie Chic’s, ‘Let It Rip’. A good set from Stephanie Sweeting...
Jonathan then introduced Dan Smith from Wakefield; what a super voice this young man has and he was very smart in a dark suit and white shirt. Dan opened his set with Michael Buble’s, ‘Cry Me A River’ followed by Eddie Cochran’s 1960 number one hit, ‘Three Steps To Heaven’. (Ah what memories that brought back).other songs from Dan were, ‘Mr. Bojangles’ and a medley of Frank Sinatra songs... Terrific Dan...
After the bingo and the raffle, (Another win for Mr T), Jonathan sang a great Motown song, ‘She Was My Girl’. He introduced another young singer, Castleford’s Emily Peters; she looked great in a Black top, ¾ trousers and (Lts). Emily sang in her set, ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, ‘Your Song’, (The Ellie Golding version). ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’ and finished with a rousing, ‘Sex On Fire... Great stuff Emily Peters...
We were spoiled with some great talent tonight and it didn’t finish there. Jonathan introduced the final act, Doncaster’s Robbie Jay, Robbie looked great in a black suit and shirt; wow he has a powerful voice, he sang, ‘Blockbuster’ by the Sweet, ‘Shang A Lang’ by the Bay City Rollers, Robbie is a terrific rock singer and had some of the audience on the dance floor including club secretary, Malcolm Cunningham, (he must have rubber legs). Robbie finished his set with a Billy Idol medley. This was a terrific night of entertainment with four great artistes and a super compere in Jonathan Carroll...
