Middlestown WMC Charity Show.
The club was very busy for this Charity show in aid of Pinderfields Neurology Ward and Help For Heroes; the show, organised by Barbara Young in memory of her late husband Mike, was presented by Harry Turnstyle who opened the show with a few of his famous ‘One Liners’. He sang his own favourite pop song, ‘Tainted Love’. He introduced Paul, ‘The Pocket Rocket’ to the stage; this guy lives up to his name, Pocket Rocket, he's never still on stage. He sang in his set, ‘Lightning’, ‘The Look’, ‘Love Letters’ and ‘Amazed’. Nice set Paul the Pocket Rocket...
Next up was Louise Webster, wow, what a voice this lady has and so relaxed on stage and funny with it. Louise, dressed in a short sparkly dress, (Lts) sang, ‘Respect’, ‘I Won’t Let You Go’, .Someone Like You’,She had a few dancers up when she sang, ‘Human’ and ‘Forget You’.
After a game of Bingo Harry introduced Thomas Henry to the stage who was ‘casually dressed’,he had popped in to see the show. In his set he sang, ‘’Make You Feel My Love’, ‘You Raise Me Up’, Kingston Town’ and had the crowd clapping along to ‘Roller Coaster’.
Harry came back to the stage and announced that the charity had so far raised £725 and there was more to come. I was told later that this total had increased to around £750… with the bingo and raffle money. There were over 30 prizes donated for the raffle by businesses and local people one of which gave six tickets for Ascot races.
The final act was singer/impressionist Tony Fletcher. He is a very smartly dressed entertainer who can sound like Billy Fury, Bobby Vee, Bill Haley, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. What a top entertainer he is. He opened his set with Eddie Cochran’s, ‘Summertime Blues’and went on to sing Cliff Richard’s, ‘Move It, he soon had the dance floor rocking. There was lots of comedy in the set. He does lightning costume changes, before your very eyes. Certainly an act to look out for… Tony Fletcher.
Yes folks, a successful night for the two charities at Middlestown WMC… I got a call from Barbara Young telling me that the Final total is £800... Great stuff Barbara...
