The Prince Of Wales club in Pontefract was busy which is always good to see. On stage was the lovely ‘Melissa’who looked fabulous in a sequined black dress which sparkled under the lights. (Lts). Her PA is excellent and she has some superb backing tracks. In the set I saw she sang quite a few Shirley Bassey songs. ‘Diamonds Are Forever’, ‘Something’and ‘As I Love You’. Wow what a wonderful voice, full of expression; Melissa is also a Shirley Bassey tribute entertainer. More of her songs were, ‘Love Story’, ‘Light My Fire’. There was a Michael Buble medley and many more songs. I loved her facial expressions, Melissa... Please Vote for My Great Grandson In the
"Wakefield Ridings". Baby Of The Year Competition Telephone 0904 901 0123 code;042 (Costs 20p) Our final call was at The Admiral Duncan where saw another top notch band called The ‘STAT’ Band. This is a four piece band comprising of Trevor Sergeant on lead guitar and vocals, Alan on Bass and lead vocals,Simon on drums and lead vocals and Trevor Midgley on keyboards, lead guitar and vocals. There songs included, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, ‘Honky Tonk
Woman’, a great medley of songs by, ‘The Who’, there was a Tom Jones song also recorded by Three Dog Night, ‘Mama Told Me Not To Come’...yet another good band, a super night for us... The Cresters In Westgate Common Club.
The place was buzzing when we arrived, the band was about to go on stage and what a band they are. A great sound, good voices and harmonies too. I know a couple of the band, Mike Sagar and Richard Harding who are also part of the Dillinger Country Band; regulars at Gilly’s CMC which is held every Tuesday here in Westgate. There were some great old rock and roll songs there, lots of humour and plenty of dancers on the floor; a few of the songs were Fats Domino’s, ‘Be My Guest’, Eddie Cochran’s. ‘Summertime Blues’ and Elvis’s, ‘One Night With You’. Another super band. So far so good... I am waiting for a picture of this band folks... The Scratch Band In Lupset Lodge club were in fine form tonight; I haven’t been to this club for a while so Pat and I put it right tonight. It was good to see so many people in there; last time I was there it was a bit thin on the ground. We were welcomed by members, committee and bar manager Sam Hesling. The sound from the Scratch band was good and the music, excellent.
Just a few of the songs were Leo Sayers’, ‘One Man Band’, ‘Route 66’ was another and one of the band’s recordings, ‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain’. A good night with, 'The Scratch Band... A nice lazy night out for me tonight and I enjoyed it too; my first call was in the Admiral Duncan where Cry Baby Cry was the band on stage featuring the talents of Rosie Doonan and Johnny Firth with a lady drummer. A good sound and the singing voices of Rosie and Johnny which are excellent. You should see this band when you see them advertised, “Cry Baby Cry”.
On to Ladybalk Social and Recreational club in Pontefract where the beautiful lady with the beautiful voice, *Beebi Del*, was the engaged artiste. Beebi will be appearing in the Horseshoe Bar in Blackpool on Friday April 5th in the prestigious ‘Blackpool Command Show’. Tonight she was wearing a lovely long black and mirrored cocktail dress and ... Lts... In the set I saw Beebi sang Olivia Newton John’s, ‘Xanadu’, an old John Denver country song, ‘Country Roads’, "wow, that was something else Beebi"... Loved it; there was a Petula Clark song, ‘Downtown’ and one from Jekyll And Hyde, ‘This Is The Moment’. I love the fact that Beebi smiles a lot in her show, well done Beebi Del... Eastborough Club in Dewsbury was my last call to see my good friend John Fitzpatrick who was in fine voice and as always looking very smart. I liked his new tie, (LTT). and TS). It was the dance (or party) set when I arrived. This is a late club with this set starting at 11-10 pm. In this john sang Bobby Vinton’s, ‘Venus In Blue Jeans’,Dave Edmunds, ‘I Hear You Knocking’ and the much requested ‘Human’. Another great show from John Fitzpatrick... The poster said Danny Davis, Guitar Vocalist. When I arrived at a busy Nash I was greeted with the words, ‘A Double Bill Tonight Mr. T’. due to a mix up there were two acts but like the gentlemen they are they worked it out and Danny Davis performed two sets and Paul Stewart did one. Well, these things do happen occasionally. Danny went on stage dressed very smartly; he carries good sound equipment and has a good voice. In his first set he sang songs by Dire Straits, The Jackson Sisters, He played a composition of Mark Knopfler, ‘ Going Home’, and one by the Safaris, ‘Wipeout’ and a good many more songs and guitar solos. A very talented entertainer… Paul Stewart was very smart on stage too as he always is; he has a good PA and a good strong voice, in his set Paul sang, ‘He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother’, The Temptations, 'My Girl’. There was a song by Ed Sheeran called, ‘Out Of Touch’. Paul has a mighty powerful voice as he demonstrated when he sang Tom Jones, ‘Delilah’. We were treated to lots of songs not often heard in the clubs by both these fine entertainers… There was quite a gathering of entertainers in the Nash tonight including, Johnny Martell, Jason Taylor, Lacey J, Trevor Craig, Adam Press, Sheldon Bonner, Lee Alexander, John Fitzpatrick, Mark Wylde and many more. A super atmosphere and a good night of entertainment… Danny came back on stage, he played and sang songs for the dancers, ‘The Walk Of Life’and Mud’s 'Tiger Feet' were just a couple; well done Danny Davis and Paul Stewart… |
