Westgate Common Club.
The act tonight was a duo who I know from many years ago, Sami Jane and Chris Lewis who are, 'Joyride', I first saw them in the Drax Club in Selby. It was good to them see them again, they have been working in Spain with great success and I for one welcome them Back Home. They looked good in their stage attire, a good PA and some excellent lights, to add to the spectacle there is a giant screen behind with even more effects. Two great voices in harmony. Songs by Bruno Mars, 'Roar', a Katy Perry chart song. Brilliant! One by Taylor Swift, ‘Shake It Off’, the last song we heard in this super set was a Barry White Song, 'You’re My First My Last My Everything'. I need to catch up with this great duo and see a whole set. St John's Terrace Club.
It was great to see Scandal, (Audrey and Craig) on stage tonight. Audrey looked beautiful as always and Craig was very smart too. They were singing Bon Jovi's, 'Livin' On A Prayer', straight into, ‘Summer Of 69'. Craig can't half play that keyboard shaped like a guitar, it’ official name is a Keytar; it came out that Craig plays football for a team called, the, wait for it... The Sad Dads... Whatever the duo sing all the moves are perfectly executed. Audrey and Craig are a joy to watch and listen to. The next song was, 'It's My Life'. Another Bon Jovi song and one called 'So What', a Pink song. Scandal do actually sing more up to date songs as they did on the final set sing a couple one called, 'Up Town Funk' a Bruno Mars Song which is number 1' or Uno in the charts, 'Bang Bang' sung by Jessie J, the last one I heard tonight was, 'Dakota' by The Stereophonics; as always, a very professional show from... 'SCANDAL'. ********************************************************************************************* The Willow Park Social Club. It's A full house here in the Willow Park Social Club In Pontefract. The act on stage tonight is one and only, ‘Andy Jay’. From Hull Andy is very smart on stage in a shiny grey suit and, 'Posh' shoes. He has a super voice and opened his set with a Dion and the Bells song, 'Teenager In Love' and from song one he had the members singing along. There was one guy in the club who sang out of tune, (on purpose). A Manfred Man was, 'Pretty Flamingo'. Andy was part of a band called The Spinoffs until recently. A bit of a one off followed; it was Gerry Rafferty's, 'Baker Street'. Songs by Lionel Richie, Queen, (Malcolm Cunningham from Ladybalk club was in the club and joined Andy in, 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', ). Johnny Cash, his final song in the set was a Michael Ball song, 'Love Changes Everything'. A top show and great to see and hear Andy Jay once again... The Admiral Duncan was busy tonight.
The band on stage was local band, the Racketeers, songs we heard were, 'Teenage Kicks', 'Didn't I See The Fire', the band is a good one and consists of, a Lead singer, a drummer, and two guitarists. I didn't know many of their songs but I liked what I heard. 'Wigwam Bam', one of Madonna's songs, 'Like A Virgin'. One called, 'Baggy Trousers' and another was, 'Sex On Fire'. lots more that I don't know the titles of but the crowd in here tonight were enjoying the band and the Music Crigglestone Wmc Welcome The Jax Danielz Band.
The club was reasonably busy tonight. The four piece band were dressed in black outfits. Their introduction music was a piece from 'The William Tell Overture'. The first song was 'Bad Moon Rising', Elvis was an early feature, 'Shopping Around', a Cliff Richard song was 'I Could Easily Fall In Love',There were some good harmonies in this one. An old Eddie Cochran hit song, 'Three Steps To Heaven', they sure have a good mix of songs, from the late 1950s to almost the present days. One we certainly don't hear very often is the Everly Brothers, 'Bird Dog'. I like this band; a no frills outfit that just gets on with the show. Dion And The Delmonts song went down well with, 'The Wanderer'. There was a medley of Bill Haley and the Comets hits, 'Shake Rattle And Roll' along with, 'See You Later Alligator'. The next song was for recycled teenagers, 'Teenager In Love'. The dancers were soon on the floor. A terrific atmosphere in the club which by this time was quite busy. Lots more from the band. More of Elvis, Buddy Holly and many more; the drummer is quite a comedian with his changes of head wear, an Elvis wig and a Johnny Preston set of feathers as the band sang 'Running Bear'. songs by Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly. The last song was one called 'Rock This Town'. The Jax Danielles band. Well done guys. On Drums is Mick, Lead guitarist is Martin, Bass guitarist that's Paolo and the lead vocalist is Danny... The Ladybalk Social Club, Pontefract.
Tonight the artiste is 'O'Brien Hesson, he hails from Barbados. He is another that takes great care in his stage appearances. I arrived in time for, The Bingo', then O'Brien took the stage opening his set with, a Lionel Richie song, 'All Night Long' , his dance moves were good. The moves continued into his next song, 'Celebration Time'. O'Brien had a job concentrating on his singing with chairman Malcolm and his antics in the box, well he and brother Brian were the comedy duo, Funnybones. A change of tempo but still in the Reggae style was a Boy George song, 'Everything I Own', then he sang a song I love, 'To Love Somebody'. I loved his version of Louis Armstrong's, 'What A Wonderful World'. Yes, O'Brien is an excellent singer / entertainer. A Culture Club song was, 'Karma Chameleon'. Again as with last night, I am just going to sit and enjoy the rest of his show which ended with a Mowtown medley. That's O'Brien Hesson folks, look out for him and check him out. Tonight In The Nash. (Albion Street WMC Castleford).
The artiste tonight is the one and only Carrie Michaels, this lady is from Sheffield. Her first song really impressed the natives of Castleford, 'Nobody Does It Like Me'. A Shirley Bassey song followed by a Carpenters hit, 'Top Of The World'. Carrie looked fantastic in a long black sequinned ball gown, like the shoes AND, LIKE THE NECKLACE. Carrie's sound is good and as always looked after by Eileen Grimshaw, (AKA Jeanie, Carries Mother). Jeanie also sings harmonies. There were Motown songs, pop songs, big ballads and some great show numbers. The next song, 'Three Good Reasons Why I Love You', was a new one on me; this was recorded by an artiste called, 'Nora Aunor'. Carrie's voice tonight is on top form. Her diction is crystal clear. Carrie sure knows how to use a stage. I like her version of a Dean Martin song, 'That's Amore'. Another Shirley Bassey song, 'I Am What I Am'. One for ME, 'As I Love You'. A brilliant first set from Carrie Michaels. (Peter the bingo caller tonight gets 9/10 and NO I didn't win). I'm looking forward to seeing Carrie Michaels in the Blackpool Command Show on Friday, April 10th at the famous Horse Shoe on Blackpool's South Shore. Tickets are £10 each. To get your tickets call Brian Cliff on 01977 705436 or send a S A E to:- Mr A Pilborough, 57 Munster Avenue, Bispham, Blackpool, FY2 0HG. Cheques payable to, Blackpool Concert Secretaries. The Horse Vaults was my next visit tonight: on stage was Ajay Jackson who was replacement for another act. Ajay looked immaculate in a Red Jacket and patterned shirt, black trousers and I like the shoes. The decor in the Horse Vaults was excellent. Gary took an eternity to do the job, (8 hours). Back to Ajay he was singing a John Legend song when I arrived; this was 'All Of Me' was the song. I was unlucky to only hear only two songs; the other was one from Les Miserable, 'Bring Him Home’. what a voice Ajay has, I liked the falsetto in his voice. Great stuff Ajay Jackson. In the pub was Elli Gent, herself an established clubland entertainer. She sang a Meatloaf song, 'I Would Do Anything For Love' in harmony with the Horse Vault landlord, Gary Lane. Excellent you guys. Next on the karaoke was Gary's son Jack, he has a super voice and sang, 'Empty Chairs And Empty Tables'. also from Les Miserable. Next up was Maureen, what a nice voice this lady has. She sang a song called, 'Out On The Floor'. A lovely surprise from Maureen. Thank you love x |
