Jamie Ansbro In The Prince Of Wales WMC.
Jamie was on stage when I arrived; he was dressed well in a silver grey suit, black shirt and tie. Jamie had the crowd with him straight away. His sound is good, he has an excellent voice. Some of his songs were, 'This Is My Life', Dion and the Delmonts, 'Teenager In Love'. I liked his Matt Monro song, 'Walk Away'. He sang Lonestar's 'Amazed', he sang that one well, Jamie is a part time extra on Emmerdale and dedicated his next song to Laura from the soap, a Ricky Vallance song 'Tell Laura I Love Her". His last song in the set was 'Home', a song by. Michael Buble. I enjoyed Jamie's set very much. It was good to see the Prince Of Wales Club pretty busy tonight... Glasshoughton was on the quiet side tonight where I saw Clare Roberts who was the act on stage; she was dressed in a short shimmering red dress, like the shoes . Clare has an excellent voice, some of her songs were, 'Mama Do'. There was an Amy Winehouse song, It was a great pity not more people in to see her show, Clare is good.. The entertainment in Glasshoughton on Sundays starts early and finishes early too, just two 45 minutes sets starting at 8pm. Clare has a wide selection of songs The last song I heard was Cher's, 'Believe'.... Well done Clare Friday 24th January, It's 'Loaded', Back By Request.
Saturday 25th January. New to the *Duncan*, The Dave Chavez Band.... A Blues Band. Crigglestone WMC Welcomes Sixties Mix...
It was good to see a full house at Crigglestone club tonight, on stage was local band, 'Sixties Mix'. The sound was excellent and the band were dressed very smartly. They opened with an Everley Brothers song, 'When Will I Be Love' followed by a Byrds song, 'Mr Tambourine Man'. Great music and harmonies. The Hollies, 'Just One Look',The Bee Gee's 'Words', 'How Do You Do It', by Gerry And The Pacemakers. Yes folks there were many from the 50's and 60's that brought back lots of good memories. Lots of Beatles, The Merseybeats, a crossover country / pop song, Leroy Van Dyke's 'Walk On By'. Buddy Holly's 'Every Day'. Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry were featured, there was Jay And The Americans version of a David Whitfield song, 'Cara Mia' and Roy Orbison's 'Pretty Woman' closed this very entertaining and impressive set from, 'Sixties Mix'. The line up is, Terry on lead guitar and vocals, Brian on lead guitar and lead vocals, 'Biff' is on bass and harmonies with John on drums. On to Brooke House to see a young lady I haven't seen for a couple of years, Amelia Davies. She was just coming to the end of her set: she looked lovely in a fishtail dress and a sequinned top, like the shoes . When we arrived Amelia was singing Tina Turner's, 'Proud Mary' and her last song in the set was Adele's 'Someone Like You'. Amelia has a good voice, excellent P A and an excellent presentation. I look forward to seeing her again... On to the Admiral Duncan where we saw a new band called the Jelly Project. Jez is on bass Guitar, Vicky is lead vocalist, Steve is on lead guitar. Greg is on rhythm guitar, Tony is on the trumpet. This is a band from the Wakefield area. When we arrived they were singing and playing Steelers Wheel's, 'Stuck In The Middle'. Some of their songs were,'River Road', 'The House Of The Rising Sun', Jackie Wilson's,'Higher And Higher'. Their final song for the night was, 'The Breeze'. After Their Great Success At Horbury WMC, The Midnight Vegas Band Will Be On
StageAt A Sell Out Show In Slaithwaite Club TONIGHT... This was the first of the monthly open band nights with the Scratch Band. As I walked in they sang a new song, 'Let Me Go'.
For those who don't know the band, they are Wakefield based and have been on the circuit for around 24 years. The line up is Stuart Wade on bass guitar and vocals, Steve Mounsey on guitar and vocals, Mick Larrad on guitar and vocals, Greg Hant on guitar and Martin Tagg on drums and vocals. A Travelling Wilburys song was, 'The End Of The Line'. The harmonies in this were very impressive, nice and tight. In the second part there are singers who are invited to, 'Give Us Song Or Two. The club was fairly busy which is encouraging. I hope they can keep it going every third Friday of the month. Singers I saw in the room were Stan The Man, Jim and Mandy Santana and few more. More songs from the band were, 'Black Magic Woman' 'You've Got Your Troubles'.'Unchain My Heart', a Joe Cocker song. 'Handle With Care', another of the Travelling Wilburys songs. The first victim, sorry, volunteer was Stan The Man who has a smashing voice, a great personality, he sang 'I Knew The Bride' and 'Take It Easy'. 9/10 Stan. Then we had, The King, Jim Santana who sang, 'One Night'' and 'Blue Suede Shoes'. On stage with Jim was Ben on rhythm guitar.who plays in Jimes Midnight Vegas Band. Hey, Ben can sure play a guitar. Well folks. as I have already said, It was encouraging to see a busy club and not only the concert room; heres hoping this night with the Scratch band can take off. If you would like to sing a couple of songs with the band, just turn up on Fiday February 21st. Let the band know what you would like to sing; it has to be with the band playing for you, no recorded music please... See You There... The Nash was reasonably busy; on stage was Marty Jones from Wakefield . He opened with a Gene Pitney song, 'Back Stage'. He followed this with a monologue in a dyslexic way about Cinderella. The next song was a Michael Buble song, 'I Just Haven't Met You Yet'. One from the 60's called 'Only One One Woman'. A hit for The Marbles. Sammy Kings,'Penny Arcade'. Elvis's, 'Suspicious Minds'. In his last set Marty sang Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing', 'Help Me Make It Through The Night'. And many more Including the Killers, 'Human'. One I haven't heard in the clubs for many a year, Judy In Disguise' by John Fred And The Playboys. Marty went on to sing some encores. Well done Marty Jones... It's been a couple of weeks since I was in the Nash and tonight it was good to see my great friends, Sharon and John Fitzpatrick. Ella Walters @ Ferrybridge Progressive club. A quiet night tonight in this lovely club; on stage was Ella Walters looking beautiful in a long black sequinned dress. Ella has a lovely voice which was demonstrated as she sang. 'Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps', a Doris Day song followed by a Shirley Bassey song. Good sound equipment and lights. I don't know who recorded, 'Pack Up '. Oh, I am told it was Eliza Doolittle. Ella has good selection of songs from the '50s' to the present day. It was a case of sit back and enjoy the music as I didn't know most of the latest songs. I do know the Dusty Springfield song, 'Son Of A Preacher Man' and the Shirelles, 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'.The last song in Ella's first set was a Cher song.'Gypsy's Tramps And Thieves'. A good set, pity there were not more people in to enjoy her talents... Marc Bolton appeared in the Nevisons Leap pub on Wednesday night on the occasion of David Ogley's 31st birthday party. The atmosphere was superb; there were lots of David's friends there and lots of his pub customers; his partner Donna laid on a wonderful spread. (Loved the sausage rolls). I saw Marc at Horbury club recently where he was a great success. What a voice as he sang a song by, 'Exile'. Marc is a great singer / comedian, my sides were sore with laughter, his voice is super with a terrific range and songs from all eras. His favourite singer is George Benson, he sang one of his songs, 'Give Me The Night'. I won't reveal all his songs, enough to say each one was brilliant as were all his impressions and there were lots of those. Marc is a radio presenter on EMI Radio with his missus and singing partner, Louise. Also In the room were, my ex sister in law, Margaret, Jamie, David's partner in the acclaimed duo Second Journey, was there with Sarah, Lee Lambert, Bethany Brooks, Joanne Brookes and many of David's friends. Marc's comedy is top class. There were Tributes to , Tom Jones, The Bee Gees, Tina Turner. Barry White, What a showman.
