Blackpool Preview Show.
The Willow club in Hull was busy for the Blackpool Command Preview show on Thursday night; the compere for the night was Dave Norman and his wife Vicki was in charge of the sound.
After Dave’s opening songs, ‘Rock A Billy Rebel’ and ‘The Wonder Of You’ he introduce Londoner Louise ‘B’ who now lives in Burton On Trent, she looked lovely in a black dress and LTS. In her set Louise sang ’Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’. What a great voice she has, ‘Valerie, and a slow version of ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’. A super set…
Next was Mark Bolton who was very smart in a dress suit; Mark opened with ‘Give Me The Night; he went into a very funny comedy routine; the facial expressions and the voices were pure comedy. He imitated The Four Tops singing ‘She Was My Girl’ and sang all four of the voices, this in itself showed Marks versatility. The man with many voices. You just have to see this man.
The next artiste was Hull’s own Zara; I have seen this young lady on many occasions and she never ceases to amaze me with her wonderful voice. Dressed in a short black dress over black shiny leggings topped off with a diamante studded waistcoat, LTS, she sang songs of all Genres. ‘We Don’t Cry Out Loud’, ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Rolling In The Deep’, ‘All That Jazz’ and one for me, ‘Alone’, another great set tonight.
After the interval our compere Dave introduced, ‘Harrison’, again dressed in a black stage dress suit, he has a powerful voice and a sense of humour, in his set Harrison sang, ‘You’re All That Matters To Me’, ‘My Girl’, ‘Under The Boardwalk’ and ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’.
The final act was Hull’s own Mr. Entertainer,’Ric Owen’. Dressed in a grey stage suit minus the jacket and still looked the part. A super tenor voice and lots of off the cuff comedy. Ric opened with, ‘That’s Life’, some ad lib comedy which went down well with the audience. As I don’t repeat jokes, off the cuff or not I will continue with Ric’s songs. ‘If You Love Me’, ‘Volare’, Can’t Help falling In Love’ and ‘ This Is the Moment’. Shades of Sammy Davis and Norman Wisdom. A top class entertainer.
[For those who don't know, LTS means I Like The Shoes].
What a choice and a difficult job Show organiser and Show producer Alan and Brian have this year,,,
