Saturday In The Local Clubs…
Carefree In Crofton.
Pat and I called in at Crofton club where the harmony trio Carefree was on stage; these guys are always very smart on stage from top to toe and always in suits. It’s probably clear by now that I have a passion for good harmony and Rob, Mark and Graham are past masters at harmony. They sing the songs of the Bay City Rollers, The Casuals, [The harmonies in ‘Jesamine’ were superb], Simon and Garfunkel, The Eagles and Thin Lizzie. It was great to see a full club; both the concert room and the tap room were very busy.
A Westgate Welcome For Kimberley.
The Westgate Common club was quite busy in both the concert room and the tap room; on stage was a young singer called Kimberly Jane who hails form Barnsley. Kimberley has a good strong voice and a good selection of songs. She was already into her second set when we arrived and was singing ‘Young Hearts Run Free’. More of her songs were Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’, [Has this become another clubland anthem?] Kimberly sang it really well’ There were songs from Shania Twain and Pink. The dance floor was full for her up tempo songs of which there were plenty. A good show Kimberly Jane…
The Scratch Band’s Live Juke Box;
The Lupset Hotel was busy on Saturday night; on stage was the local favourite band, ‘The Scratch Band’; they were on form and they were doing their now famous, “Live Juke Box”, there is a play list for people to choose a song from and make a donation for charity which on this occasion was the ‘Martin House Childrens Hospice’. There were victims [sorry, volunteers] who were sponsored to do their party pieces, Stan The Man sang ‘Doctor Doctor’, Matt, the cockle man sang’ Mexican Girl’. Former Scrach Band guitarist, Steve Mounsey played a couple with the band. Good to see Steve up and looking fit... A super atmosphere and they raised around £150 for the charity. 'Martin House'...
