The Kalahari Bushmen.
The City club lounge was very busy when we arrived, the band, ‘The Kalahari Bushmen’, was in full flow with Dave Cash in charge. The followers were singing along with him. The songs of Neil Sedaka, Don Gibson and Johnny Cash were featured. On lead guitar was Chris Cameron, Rhythm guitarist was Jack Wrigglesworth, on bass, Ricky Brook, on banjo, Charlie Amos and on keyboards, Don Coulson.
It was good to catch up with my old mate Colin Dack who will be playing at Crigglestone WMC with his new band, Blue Bayou on Friday August 19th.
Sonya At Brooke House WMC.
Brookhouse club was buzzing when we called in; on stage was
that Zany lady, Sonya. If you have never seen this lady, make it in your way to
go and see her. She was dressed in a leopard print cat suit with shoes to
match; oh! and she has lovely multi coloured hair, it looks great. Sonya has a
superb voice and sings lots of styles of songs, Don McLean’s ‘American Pie’,
Celine Dion’s ‘I’m Alive’, A Shakin’ Stevens medley, Manfred Mann’s ‘Do Wah
Diddy’ and Bon Jovi’s ‘Living On A Prayer’ were just a few of the songs in her set. Added to all this Sonya is a very funny lady and is often compared in looks to Sue Pollard. An excellent, nay, fantastic ‘Artiste’.”Sonya”.
The Spirit Of Smokie.
A full house at the Lupset where we usually finish the
night if we are in the area on a Saturday night; on stage was the Dean Barton
Band; Dean is lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Andy Whelan on lead acoustic
guitar and vocal harmonies; Graham Kearns is on bas guitar and vocal harmonies.
Their music is in the Spirit Of Smokie. Most people I know like Smokie, ‘Living
Next Door To Alice’, (the clean version) but the Lupset faithful filled in the
gaps for them. ‘Oh Carol’, ‘I’ll Meet You At Midnight’, and many others. The
Lupset was very busy for this band.
