A Full House At The Top Hat...
It doesn’t have to be the Palladium for top entertainment; I saw a show at the Top Hat Albion Street Club in Hemsworth last night that was every bit as entertaining.
Yes people were waiting at the door at this local club. The occasion was a charity show in aid of the McMillan nurses and to the memory of Elaine Hall, wife of Brian the club secretary. Compering the show was that man himself, ‘Harry Turnstyle’ of Ricky Graham Leisure. Harry is the perfect compere, always very smart and he has a great singing voice and his trade mark ‘One Liners’. He got the show off the ground with a couple of songs, ‘Tainted Love and Are You Ready For Love’.
Harry introduced Kevin Kane who was also immaculate on stage, Kevin has a superb voice and a wicked sense of humour, great comedy timing and had the members and visitors in stitches. I have known Kevin for a few years now and admire his approach to his audience. He sang in his set, ‘Now Is The Time’, ‘I’ll Go Where The Music Takes Me and All I Do Is Dream Of You’. What an entertainer this man is.
Harry then introduced two girl duo, Louise and Kirsten who are, ’Eye Candy’; yet another great performance. Both girls have lovely voices with some note perfect harmonies; they are not short of a few one liners of their own, (This show should have been called the Comedians). In their set they sang, ‘Human, Valerie, Hero' and were joined on stage by Darren York to sing ‘Drift Away’ with some terrific three part harmonies. What a song and what a performance.
After the bingo which in itself raised a few pounds for the charity, it was the magnificent, Darren York. Darren has a great voice and yet again a superb turn of comedy. He raised his glass along with the audience to toast the memory of Elaine, there were a few tears from her friends. Darren sang in his set ‘The Rhythm Of My Heart’ as a tribute to Elaine. I particularly liked his rendition of ‘Handbags And Glad Rags’, This was a wonderful night of “Entertainment”. At the Top Hat; it was a great pleasure to be there. Kevin called to tell me that the event raised in excess of £1,100. Well done to Top Hat, Thanks for the invitation Kevin... Pictured:- Harry Turnstyle, Kevin Kane, Eye Candy and Darren York...
