Back in the late 1950's there was a local talent competition held every Friday at the Regal Cinema which is still standing although it's now empty', on Kirkgate In Wakefield. It was called, "Friday Funtime" and was compered by the Cinema manager, Reg Helley. There were many fine acts on this show but one that stood out for me in the final,[though not the winner] was Wakefield man James Hubert; uncle to Dean Hubert of Two Steps Forward fame. In the final James mimed and danced to Elvis Presley's, 'Jailhouse Rock'. His prize was a box of Heinz Varieties, beans, soups, tomato ketchup and whatever Heinz produced at that time. In this day and age I see lots of Talent Competitions but non quite like Reg Helley's, "Friday Funtime", they were amazing. If my memory serves me, a band won singing the song, Put A Light In The Window". A King Brothers Hit from 1957/8 I Wish I could remember the name of the winning band ...
