The Hammer & Stithy Re-Opened...
The pub opened on Thursday October 27th after being closed for some months. The new Landlord and Landlady are James and Kath Casey with Mandy Wilson as their manager. The entertainment on Friday night when I called in was Tracy Lea who looked stunning in a long black evening dress and LTS. Some of Tracy’s songs were, ‘I Drove All Night’, [Celine Dion] Be My Baby’, (The Ronettes] and Brenda Lee’s ‘Lets Jump The Broomstick’. So it’s good luck to the new incumbents and I hope the Hammer & Stithy returns to its former glory...
The Flying Horse Demolished...
Further down the road from The ‘Stithy’, The Flying Horse is being demolished, the Commercial Hotel is also being demolished and Fernhouse club is closed. That leaves only the ‘Stithy’ and the ‘Red Lion’ are the only two left on Dewsbury Road and the Red Lion has recently changed hands. So maybe there will be lots happening there...
Two more pubs I have heard about and will be investigating are "The Bingley Arms" at Horbury Bridge and "The New Wharf Side", On Thornes Lane, [Formerly know as The Jolly Sailor]
Roadhouse Wow the Wakefield City Club!
These two guys, Neil on guitar and Rik on keyboards, really are a top soft rock duo. The recently won two awards, one was the Leeds Concert secretaries award for top duo and then more recently the Sheffield Mercury Newspaper award.
They were on top form at the City, their stage presence is second to none, the sound and lights are amazing and programmed sound to light, wow. A few of the songs were, 'It’s A New Life’, ‘Addicted To Love’ and ‘Here I Go Again On My Own’. Another top show from ‘Road House’...’
