Full House For Helen-Marie And John Gillan.
Alverthorpe Club was very busy on Sunday night when I called in. The artistes were, Helen-Marie and John Gillan.; Helen was first on; she looked great in black trousers and black top adorned with silver accessories to go with her beautiful long blonde hair; the classic rock chick look. She has a tremendous voice and a great personality. Carl was on hand with the sound and lights; Helen-Marie’ first sang in her set, ‘A Total Eclipse Of The Heart’, Red Light Spells Danger’, ‘Bed Of Roses’ and a knockout version of, ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ amongst others.
Helen told me she is to team up with another singer in the new year; another exciting duo! I wish them every success as I’m sure it will be...
John Calls The Bingo
Next on was the Bingo Caller; yes, comedian/vocalist John Gillan took over the job with hilarious results afterwhich he was introduced on stage to perform. He opened his show with ‘As If I Never Said Goodbye’. What a voice, I was then told he spends four months a year singing in the West End Musical, ‘Les Miserable’.
His jokes came fast and furious, the audience were in stitches, John Gillan is a very funny comedian. None of his jokes repeated here folks; you will have to see his show yourself. He was on stage for a good hour keeping us well and truly entertained. His show was completed with a couple of show songs, ‘As If I Never Said Goodbye’ and ‘Nessum Dorma’. This was my first viewing of John Gillan but certainly not my last...
