Phil Lloyd at Gilly’s CMC
The first set saw a full house again at Gilly’s CMC with the ever popular Phil Lloyd. Phil was a front man for former country band, ‘The Shack Band’; they split up a few years ago and for a long time Phil toured with Ken Durrands as ‘Phil and Ken’. Phil had a few problems with operations on his vocal chords last year but seems to have come through it very well; his voice was really powerful tonight. His three sets included songs from Merl Haggard, Johnny Cash, Mickey Gilley and The Statler Brothers. The song that was most prominent was written by the late great ‘Marty Robbins’, which was "My Woman My Woman My Wife", Phil sang this lovely song with feeling ... The night finished with two encores for Phil and well deserved too. As we prepared to leave there was quite a queue buying Phil’s CD’s which he has about six different ones. Well done Phil, another great night and all the praise justified.
In the audience was country singer Steve Hanks. He came to see Phil and to discuss a charity night which he and Gilly are arranging for ‘Help The Heroes’. This will be held at the City Club on Thursday November 3rd; the show will consist of an array of country acts to be confirmed a little closer to the time. The tickets will be available soon and will be £4 each ...so for at least 4 acts it’s a pound an act which is quite reasonable I think. We will keep you in touch with developments.
