The First Semi Final of The Wakefield Star Search took place at Westgate common club on Wednesday night. Jonathan Carroll opened up with,’ I’m Doing Fine’. Well done JC, he introduced all the ‘Team’, The sound
man, Producer and all sorts of other jobs he does, Steve Paige, the Judges, The Light Man, ‘Pete The Meat’ [Don’t Ask], the Bar Staff and Diana, the raffle ticket seller;
All that out of the way he introduced the first contestant in the form of, Jamie Ansbro from Leeds; Jamie is half of the duo ‘Destination Unknown’. The other half of the duo, Aaron Burdon, is in Hospital after having a serious operation. I wish him a speedy recovery. Jamie looking very smart on stage, a couple of his songs were,’ Will You Stand By Me and ‘Unchained Melody’.
Enter South Elmsall’s Lucas Primmer who was also very smart in his outfit; he too has a good voice and two of the songs he chose, in his set were, ‘I Who Have Nothing’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’. Well done Lucas...
Wakefield man Adam Le Feuvre was next on stage; he looked really smart in a silver grey suit with a blue shirt and matching blue silk tie. Adam has a fine voice and sang, ‘She’s A Lady’ and ‘My Girl’. Another excellent performance from Adam.
Part two was opened with a medley of songs from JC; he pulled some different ones out of the bag tonight, well done big fella...
He introduced Barnsley girl, Kimberley Jane; she wore a blue sequined dress over black tights with high heeled boots. Kimberley sang in her set, ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’.
Jade Helliwell from Batley looked good in her sequined top and black tights; she opened her set with, ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker’ self accompaniment on acoustic guitar which she used to tap out the rhythm, no chords, this was fantastic. She went on to sing one of her own compositions again self accompanied on guitar which she played this time. Well done that girl, Jade Helliwell...
The final act was Hull rock singer Damian Balthazar; he looked the part in his rockers outfit as he sang in his set, ‘Some Kind Of Woman’ and a fab version of, ‘Bat Out Of Hell’. Damian wears a bandana during his performance but removed it for his Meatloaf song; he looked almost the double of Meatloaf.
Well ‘What a show; the judges, Mike Summer, Carrie Winfield, Les Turfrey, Alan Little and Rob Kerr had a tough job because any three of the acts could have made the
final. They decided that Jamie Ansbro,[appearing as Destination Unknown], Jade
Helliwell and Damian Balthazar shall go to the final in two weeks time...
