The Black Horse, Westgate, Wakefield...
Pat and I were invited to this busy and historical pub in Wakefield; (go and look at the pictures on the walls), to see 16 years old singer, Gemma James; she looked lovely in a short green sparkly dress and, (Lts). Gemma has a fine voice and chose some nice songs; some were sung to acoustic guitar accompaniment and a few to backing tracks and a couple on keyboards which she plays herself. A nice sounding PA gives Gemma a full package. She has already been out on professional bookings and has been asked to return, always a good sign. Some of her songs were, ‘Black Velvet’, ‘There Are Worse Things I Could Do’ and ‘Dear Mr President’. I believe Gemma has a bright future... for more information go to Gemma's web site; www.gemmajames.co.uk and www.youtube.com/user BUBBLES IN NEW BROOKHOUSE WMC New Brooke House Club welcomed Bubbles tonight; well this lady is Bubbly, a fine singer and a comedienne. She has enough lights on stage for Wembley Stadium. She was dressed in a short black dress and yes folks, Lts... The club wasn’t very busy but there were enough members there to create a good atmosphere. Bubbles sang in the set we saw, The Corrs 'Breathless’,The Pussycat Dolls, ‘Sway’, Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ and lots more finishing her set with Queen’s ‘Somebody To Love’.What a superb singer/entertainer in Bubbles... Paul Kew Remembrance Show.
The weather was really bad tonight; where I live the roads were snow covered but passable, I drove to Carlton Social Club to see a Charity show dedicated to the late Paul Kew. Paul was a good friend to me, we used to swap artistes photographs. Well, the club was very busy and the members were playing Bingo when I arrived, No I didn’t win. The entertainment was provided by a DJ, an Elvis Tribute act, (Dean Holland) and a young lady from Tenerife who I didn’t manage to see. Elvis, (Dean) obviously sang the songs of the King, he sounded quite good. I was unable to stay very long as the snow was getting worse so I took my leave and travelled to.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Westgate Common which was also very busy; the show they had was to raise money for The Wakefield Hospice. I had missed Beth Reddy who I was told put on a great show. Sorry Beth, can’t be in two places at once love but no doubt I will see you again. On stage when I arrived was Michael Jackson tribute singer, Ben Tyrell. There were all the moves and the moon walk there; Ben really is a good tribute act... again I looked outside and my car was completely covered so I decided to go home... I hope both clubs made plenty of money for their chosen Charities... Sadly due to the weather Wakefield & District Family History Society have had to cancel tomorrows event. The decision was not taken lightly but after consultations with the venue (Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) regarding the entrance and car park area it was decided to
cancel. A new date will be confirmed after Easter. The picture of an eagle was drawn by Nigel when he was 10 years old; I like it and sodo many people who have seen it. His mother gave me the picture drawn on a piece of text book paper. I scanned and adjusted the size and this is what came up... Well done Nigel...

My next stop was ten minutes up the road to Castleford’s Albion Street Club, (The Nash). The club was not as busy as I have seen it on other occasions but it was very cold outside; there was a good atmosphere there. On stage was Paul Stewart who was very smart in a black suit and dark shirt. Paul has a very strong voice and carries a good sound system. Some of his songs were, The Drifters, ‘Save The Last Dance For Me’, Elvis Presley’s, ‘The Wonder Of You’,Tom Jones’s, ‘Delilah’ and many more. A good show from Paul Stewart... KIM 'B'. I’m still on the tablets folks but feeling heaps better. Tonight I took it really steady, first a gentle ride to a very quiet Ferrybridge Progressive club to see Kim ‘B’. More people did come in later Kim has been solo for a few months now and each time I see her she gets better. Her sound equipment and lights are good, her voice is much improved and her stage presence, excellent. Kim has a carefully chosen set list which she can choose to suit the audiences. She looked great in a short blue dress and Lts... Tonight I heard her sing Cher’s,'Walking In Memphis’, Alanis Morissette’s ‘Ironic’, Adele’s ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ and many others. I was well impressed with Kim’s version of Peggy Lee’s ‘Fever’. |
