Millbridge WMC, Liversedge, Near Huddersfield, was very busy last night for the Flair Auditions. There were four acts there and a last minute compere,*Stuart Eden*. Stuart opened the show with a couple of jokes and then introduced a boy/girl duo, ‘Andante’. Mitch and Kirsty are from
Swadlincote, both have good voices and looked good on stage. Some of their songs were, ‘Falling In To Love’; (Their own composition). very well phrased and the harmonies were excellent, they also sang, ‘Valerie’and ‘I Got A Feeling‘. Andante finished their set with ‘The Prayer’.
'April', from nearby Heckmondwike was next; wow, what a voice, April looked good on stage too; her songs are mostly in the jazz style and I would say for cabaret, her opening song was the Etta James song, ‘At Last’, the feeling that went into this song was wonderful. April has a terrific voice range and used it to the full. More songs were, ‘Cheek To Cheek’, ‘L.O.V.E’. I loved her version of ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’. This song has a special meaning for yours truly... April’s backing music was, superb…
After a short interval, Stuart Eden returned to the stage and sang a Carpenters song called, ‘Superstar’. yeah, well good Stuart.
He introduced a boy/ girl duo called Jinx, made up of Chris on Guitar and vocalist Zoey; they sang covers in the acoustic style including, ‘Jar Of Hearts’, ‘Fix You’ and ‘Somebody I Used To Know’. A good set, I do think that Chris, a good guitarist should sing some harmonies and the duo would then be complete… Just an observation…
The final act Stuart introduced was an Elvis Tribute from Leeds, who goes by the name of, Aaron Martin; he appeared in a white jump suit with the Elvis Adornments. ‘C.C. Ryder. Burning Love, Don’t Cry Daddy and T.R.O.U.B.L.E. were some of his songs.
A good night of entertainment attended by lots of our club entertainers too numerous to mention but you all know who you are…
