SEPTEMBER 8TH - 4pm - SCOTT CONRAD.
SEPTEMBER 11th- 9pm - ROADHOUSE. SEPTEMBER 12th - 9pm - MIKE CARLTON. Ricky Graham Auditions at the Willows club in Pontefract was well attended tonight; there were three acts auditioning. Lots of friends were there; John and Sharon Fitzpatrick, Graham
Sowrey, (Big G), Christina Myers and her family, Paul, The Pocket Rocket, (He makes me feel taller). And many others. The first act on stage was a band called The Prophecy, from Sheffield. They looked good in their stage outfits. Duran Duran, were featured as were Culture Club Stevie Wonder and Tears For Fears. I love the 80’s music. The line up is, Phil on bass guitar and harmony vocals, Darren on lead vocals and Steve on keyboards and harmony vocals. The song I liked best was, Culture Club’s, ‘Do You Really Want To Hurt Me’, I’ve not heard that for many years. Next up was Dewsbury singer, (Appearing as Paul Heaton from the Beautiful South and the House Martins), Graham Stevens. He even dresses the part; Graham has just the right voice for his tribute to Paul Heaton. Some of his songs were, ‘Song For Whoever’, (I always thought this song was called I Love You From The Bottom Of My Pencil Case). There was,‘I’ll Sail This Ship Alone’, and another not heard for a long time, ‘Happy Hour’. Last but not least was a trio from Hull called Tinsel Town; this trio is made up of Jean, Steve and Jan.They looked very smart in their stage outfits. There were some well chosen songs in their from different eras. They opened with an impressive version of Michael Buble’s, ‘Hollywood’, the harmonies and choreograph were very good. Take That’s, ‘Rule The World'. I particularly liked the medley of The Walker Brothers song,‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore’ and The Ronettes, ‘Be My Baby’. For an encore they surprised me with a Robbie Williams version of ‘Angels’ in the style of Elvis Presley. There were lots more songs from all three acts tonight; a good night of entertainment from, The Prophecy, Graham Stevens and Tinsel Town… Another Picture Tomorrow... Arguably, The Best Tenor, (In my opinion) ever to sing in our clubs. Derek Armitage, pictured with me and Brenda, another super singer; we were singing together, "The Three Bells", (Jimmy Brown in harmony). Derek on top harmonies, I was on low harmonies, (So they couldn't hear me) and Brenda was singing the melody, this picture was taken in 1984 in the Railway pub in Featherstone. Pat and I had the pub for a couple of years and enjoyed our time there before moving on to Crofton... Tonight I had a ride round and called in a couple of places to see what or if anything was going to happen in the immediate future. Not much luck there so I called in to the Admiral Duncan on Thornes Lane, Wakefield and had a chat with Kieran, the pub’s manager. He told me that he wanted to find a Dire Straits tribute band for the pub. Do you know of one? If so call on Kieran and give him your details...

It Helps Keep The Club Going... The Country Club Is At, Westgate Common WMC 5 Park Grove Road, Wakefield - WF2 8TW. The Show Starts At 8 - 30 Prompt... Gilly’s was busy tonight, (as usual); on stage was country singer, Grandpa T Smith looking very smart in his western style outfit. I first met Tony some years ago when he was lead singer in a country band called, Madison County who were a very popular band.Tonights backing was a guitar and some excellent tracks. His voice is perfect for the songs he chooses, and he knows lots of them. In the set I saw he sang songs by, Garth Brooks, ‘Not Counting You’, George Strait’s, ‘I Just Wanna dance With You’, a Ray Charles oldie, ‘You Dont Know Me’,I loved that one, there was one by Burl Ives I haven’t heard for years and years, ‘A Little Bitty Tear Let Me Down’. What a performance from the gentleman himself, Grandpa T Smith... Sheffield lady Sarah Lee Scott was the artiste at Albion Street WMC, (The Nash), tonight; she looked lovely in a black and white top over a shortish white skirt (Lts). Sarah has a good sound system and a good range in her lovely voice. Some of her songs were, Emeli Sande's,‘Next To Me’, Snow Patrol’s, ‘Chasing Cars’, there were some of Dusty Springfield’s songs and some by, Adele, Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift. Sarah gave a first class performance choosing songs for the age groups of the members. I particularly liked the Dolly Parton song, 'Here You Come Again'. Yes folks, a good performance from Sarah Lee Scott... I called in at the Fox & Grapes tonight in Wakefield tonight; the place was packed, there was the big match on television, Man U v Chelsea; (0-0 was the score. The pub has entertainment there on the first Wednesday of each month. Poster on the left... There are some good standard club entertainers appearing at the Fox & Grapes as you can see from the poster. I had a chat with clubland entertainer, Robbie Jay, David Ogilvie from top clubland duo, 'Second Journey', and David’s lovely wife, Donna’ just a change from my normal night out and I enjoyed it… I even met people from my school days. I'm looking forward to some of the live entertainment nights. Glasshoughton Club was very busy tonight; on stage was Barnsley lady, Sam Migell, she looked very trendy in a black top over shorts, (Ltb). Sam has good sound and lights systems, a good voice and songs that the members appreciated. Some of these songs were the songs of, Lionel Richie with an up beat version of, ‘All Night Long’, Enrico Iglesias’s, ‘Hero’, her dance moves were super, she really is a fit young lady. Sam had her 29th birthday this week, (Plus Vat she told me). She sang Lonestar’s, ‘Amazed’, again up tempo, and many more. Sam Migell is a very good singer / entertainer…Thanks Sam… You're a good 'un |
