The Glasshoughton Club in Castleford was the place to be on Wednesday night for the first heat of the Castleford Star Search. Compering the show was Jonathan Carroll and on sound it was Stave Paige who also produces the competition. Jonathan opened with a song, ‘You To Me Are Everything’ and went on to introduce the first competitor, Castleford girl, Emily Rooker; Emily has a good voice and looked good on stage She sang in her set ‘Temporary Home’, ‘There You’ll Be’ and ‘Suddenly See More’. A good set from Emily.
Next was Amanda Gallagher from Hull, wow, what a voice! Amanda opened her set with a rousing version of ‘Cabaret’ and went on to sing Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’. I have to mention all her songs to show her versatility; Amanda’s next song was, ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ and finished her impressive set with Heart’s ‘Alone’. Again ‘Wow’ what a set and a terrific voice. [Loved her shoes].
Next up was Adam Le Feuvre from Leeds, he looked very smart in a suit and tie; he opened his set with ‘Human’ that had the crowd clapping along, ‘My Girl’, (Pat’s favourite), Robbie Williams ‘Angels’, Adam finished his set with, ‘Try A Little Tenderness’. A very good set.
After the interval we saw Barnsley girl, Amelia Davis who wore a long white evening gown, couldn’t see the shoes. Amelia’s songs were,’ Ave Maria’, ‘The Rose’, ‘Price Tag’ and ‘That’s What Friends Are For’. Another good set from Amelia.
The final act on the show was Tom Swallow from Barnsley, a real surprise from this 18 years old singer and what a voice. Tom was clearly nervous but once over that he showed what he could do. His first song was the Enrico Iglesias song, ‘Hero’,the light and shade in his voice was quality, equally so when he sang, ‘Red’, ‘Feel’and ‘That’s Life’.
Sadly only three can go on to the ¼ finals and they are, Adam Le Feuvre,
Amanda Gallagher and Amelia Davis...
