Luke Wins Star Search 2011...
18 years old Luke Murgatroyd was £1200 richer when he won the Castleford Star Search on Wednesday night...
What a terrific atmosphere at Glass Houghton WMC on Wednesday night for the final of Star Search 2011. Compere Jonathan Carroll opened the show with a song, (‘My Girl’). He introduced the judging panel, Jade Adams, Rebecca Slater, Stuart Eden, Neil Crossland, Jason Mills, Amy Thomas, Dan Knights and Leanne Taylor, Competition producer/sound man, Steve Paige, the ladies on the bar, Jemma, Julie and Claire.
The first contestant was Bradford’s Luke Murgatroyd who was very smart in a dark suit; Luke has a smashing voice and a good stage presence, no doubt the influence of his singing tutor Tony Wayne. A couple of his songs were, ‘Feeling Good’ and ‘Till I Hear You Sing Again’. A good opening to the show.
Manchester girl Danielle Hobson looked stunning in a short black and white dress complete with silver adornments, (Lts). Danielle has a lovely strong voice, a good stage presence; she chose Queens, ‘Somebody To Love’ and ‘Alone’, an excellent performance.
Closing the first half of the show was Normanton girl, Jasmine Batty, AKA, Jazz who also was a student of Tony Wayne; what a super entertainer this young lady is, she was dressed in a very short black dress over patterned tights, Lts, and sang, ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Dance With My Father’. Another good show, she used every inch of the stage.
After the interval Jonathan Carroll opened the second half with ‘Moonlighting’, He was on form tonight... he introduced the lovely Kayleigh Pearman who has a super soprano voice and can she hit the high notes... Kayleigh looked great in a turquoise evening gown and Lts... she chose to sing in her set, ‘The Music Of The Night’ and (In Italian) ‘Time To Say Goodbye’. Another excellent performance...
Enter Castleford’s Emily Peters; again a stunning short black dress and yes... Lts... ‘I Drove All Night’ and a fantastic version of Whitney Houston’s ‘Saving All My Love For You’. Emily has a super voice and has lots more to offer. She used the stage well and has a good presentation...
The final act of the night was Thomas Pywell from Worksop; he looked very smart in a waistcoat trousers and shirt. He has a strong voice and sang in his set, ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ and ‘Sex On Fire’.
Well, a difficult one for the judges, it was a super show with six good acts who all
upped their performances. The final decision was, in first place, Luke Murgatroyd who collected £1,200, second was Jazz who won £500 and in third place was,Danielle Hobson who won £300. The Prizes were presented by the Club
Secretary, Shaun Smith. As one person said to me, “it could have been any three
from the six”.Well done everyone and thank you for a great final...
