The Bilton Club in Harrogate was very busy, it was the senior citizens Christmas Party. The place was buzzing as the artiste for the afternoon appeared on stage, ...... Drum roll ..... John Fitzpatrick looking a million dollars in his stage outfit. His first song was, 'How Do You Do', the members took him immediately, I liked his version of Emile Ford's, 'Slow Boat To China'.There were a few songs from the 60's and 70"s , the members joined in and there was a terrific happy atmosphere in the room. A few Christmas songs went down well as did John and Sharon's 'Our Song', 'I Wanna Grow Old With You'. In John's second set he sang lots of requests from the '60's and most of the 'Recycled Teenagers', took to the dance floor. A really nice sight. One gentleman Richard Reynard 90 years old was dancing with a lady called, Pat and was one of the first on the floor, great stuff sir...
Lee At Nevisons Leap.
Not over busy but there were a few in to see, X Factor contestant Lee Lambert. I didn't have long but I stayed to listen to a couple of his songs. Everyone knows that Lee has a terrific voice and a great personality. Although he was singing to not many people he still dressed the part looking very smart. Back to Lee's songs; the couple I heard were, 'When We Were Young', a Killers song and the other was, ' Umbrella', a Baseballs song. Unfortunately one had to leave and that was me... The Nevison's Leap is a pub in Pontefract that has been taken over by David Ogden who is half of the top duo, Second Journey. He and his partner, Donna are making it a pleasant place to spend some of your time there. There is entertainment every other Tuesday and some good standard acts are already booked in. Please come and give them some support... Saturday 21st December at the Admiral Duncan, It's

The club is going from strength to strength, the committee is a forward looking team and are booking some excellent artistes. Tonight, 'Monday', on stage a young singer called Liam Kelly looking very smart in a three piece suit, white shirt and tie, like the shoes. An excellent voice and chose the right songs for the members. His first song was a Michael Buble song, 'Felling Good'. Liam carries a good sound system. 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'. Some Matt Monro songs, 'A Portrait Of My Love'. And, 'Softly As I Leave You, A couple of the Drifters songs, Snow Patrol's, 'Chasing Cars'; all well sung. A Luther Van Dross number which was new to me, a good set, Liam Kelly. Well done sir... Grace sings At The Prince Of Wales.
I was there early to make sure I got a seat, I needn't have rushed, the club was quiet at 8-15 pm but very quickly became busy when Grace, the artiste for tonight appeared on stage. Grace is a lady I very much admire, She is also one of the country's leading Pink Tribute artistes. Grace looked lovely in her stage outfit, a long black cocktail dress split up one leg, tastefully attractive, Lts, Grace has excellent sound and lights equipment and an excellent voice. Grace opened her show with,'Right Here Waiting', a Richard Marx song. The lights are very effective . Her next song was by the Ronettes, 'Be My Baby'. Next was an acoustic version of Foreigners big hit, 'I Wanna Know What Love Is', love that one, on to a Rod Stewart hit, 'The First Cut Is The Deepest'. There were many more but I'm not giving Grace's entire set list away. Brilliant set and presentation, that's 'Grace"... Here in the Prince Of Wales club was another terrific songstress, Christina Myers. I had to take a Picture of her BB Boots... Elli Gent In The Ex-Servicemens Club, Pontefract. Pontefract Ex-Servicemens club was busy on Sunday where chaos reigned, Elli Gent was the act on stage looking good in a long silver dress, like the shoes, oh no, she doesn't wear shoes on stage. In fact look at the picture. Some of her songs were 'Breathless', The Working Man'. 'The Rock And Roll Waltz'. I like Elli's refined accent, everyone in the club understood every word?... There was a Meatloaf song, A good strong voice has our Ellie. The last song in the set I saw was, Snow Patrol's, 'Chasing Cars'. A very entertaining set from, Martie C... What? Oh sorry, 'Elli Gent'. Saturday night in Sharlston started off a bit on the quiet side; hold on,
suddenly it was busy. On stage tonight was the S.T.A.T. Band. They were dressed smartly, the music is great and tight, top class harmonies. The lead singer, Awesome and that's a word I don't use very often. Their first song was, 'Carry On Wayward vSon', a Kansas song. 'No Matter What' a Badfinger song followed. The next number was a Laas song, 'There She Goes' sung by the drummer, affectionately known as ... Wait for it... 'Sooty'. 'Without You', a Neilson song, written by one of the band members of Badfinger. More songs were by, Wishbone Ash, McGuiness Flint, Manfred Mann's Earth Band and Paul McArtney's, Wings. The bands line up is, Alex Brooklands, lead singer and guitarist, on keyboards, mandolin and guitar is Trevor Midgley, on lead guitar is Trevor Sergeant and on drums and 'Kazoo', as stated, "Sooty". His real name is Simon Kay. A real show in the Sharlston Club. The Admiral Duncan recovered from a shock pull out of a band tonight, Saturday. Matt Hodges and Bethany Allsopp stepped in at literally the last hour to provide the entertainment Matt played some of his own material and some impressive country songs. There some of Johnny Cash's songs, (Folsom Prison Blues).there was a different version of, 'Tell Me Ma'. Following Matt was lovely young lady called Bethany Allsop. She has a lovely voice; she also sang some of her own covers accompanied by Matt on guitar. Bethany moved onto her electric keyboard and sang more of her own compositions. One was called 'Impossible'. Pretty good Bethany. have a listen to Beth Allsopp on YouTube. Some of Beth's songs were Impossible, a cover song, 'Titanium, cover, Open Road, original and another original, 'As We Know It'. Beth's voice in my opinion has a sound of Mary Hopkins. Yeah! A Brand New Venue.
The George And Dragon In Flockton, (which lies between Wakefield and Huddersfield), reopened tonight; it had been closed for a couple of weeks for a re-furbishment and a great job has been done, it looks superb. The first artiste was Katie Starr, singing to a packed house. Katie has superb voice and sound equipment. She opened her first set with an Adele song, 'Skyfall', Followed by an Alana Miles song 'Black Velvet' and Paloma Faith's 'Never Tear Us Apart'. The pub has lots of character with low beams, (even I felt tall in there); there was a good atmosphere in the place'. Back to the music, Adele was featured once again in a song called, 'Don't You Remember', another new one on me. There was an Amy Winehouse song, 'Back To Black'. (Katie had her own dancer, 'Phie', pictured below). Katie's voice just gets better, I have followed her progress for a few years now; another song she sings really well is, 'Take Another Piece Of My Heart' a Beverley Knight song. To finish her first set she sang one for Mr T, (Me), Emile Sande's, 'Clown'. Which she performed on the X factor as Katie Markham, I love that song. Katie has recently been showcasing with Dean Alexander with a classical crossover / musical theatre duet as Epica across the country. www.epicaduet.co.uk. Katie will be freelance from May onwards she is moving areas next year but you will see her still as she has a few gigs over the north east. You can see Katie perform on the Blackpool Command Show on Friday 4th april 2014 in the Horseshoe Show Bar. It was great to see her again, she lights up my day....
