I'm on my way to see Harry Turnstyle, Ashley Wheelhouse and Big G. They are appearing at Glasshoughton Wmc; it was very busy. Now here comes Harry Turnstyle, he is as always well dressed. He opened the show with ‘Love Of The Common People'. Then followed the comedy one liners, none here folks, Harry sang, Stealers Wheel's, 'Stuck In The Middle'. Enter Ashley Wheelhouse, aka Jackman who opened his spot with a Beatles song, 'I Saw Her Standing There'. Then an instrumental, 'Parisienne Walkway'.
Big G appeared in a bright orange coat, G has added lots more jokes to his show, I’m not saying what they are suffice to say he went down really well tonight. He ended his part of the show with a parody on the song, ‘Fever’. Well done Graham. Up next it's Sonya who looked good in a red dress, like the shoes. Sonya has a terrific voice and is a very funny lady. She opened her part of the show with Celine Dion's, 'I'm Alive', her next song, 'Hero', Enrico Iglesias’s version, the up tempo one, Sonya’s next song, Petula Clarke's, Sailor, this was of course recorded by Ann Shelton back in the 1960's. Now it's time for BINGO. Back to the show with Harry, Ashley and Sonya. As a trio I have christened, ‘THE AGENTEERS’, they opened with Jeff Beck's, 'Hi Ho Silver Lining', super harmonies. ‘Spirit In The Sky', Johnny B Goode and lots more for the dancers. It was nice to catch up with, John Fitzpatrick, Sasha T, and hubby, Carol Lee and her hubby, Ricky Graham, and Irene, Steffi Ackroyd, Rachel Hainsworth, Liam Kelly and more. My final visit tonight was at Alverthorpe Wmc to see the beautiful Miss Catherine Cooper, she looked great in a short zebra print dress, like the shoes. Catherine was singing in her last set , singing, 'Take A Piece Of My Heart' this is a song covered by quite a few artistes over the years , I liked the Faith Hill version. This was followed by, 'Heaven', a Bruno Mars song, another new one on me. I knew the next one, 'I'm Alive' a Celine Dion favourite. I liked Catherine's version of, 'You To Me Are Everything'. The members were telling me as I walked in that Catherine had done well. Really pleased to hear that... Well done Catherine Cooper. Pontefract Sports And Social club. On stage here tonight was a young man I saw a few years ago in Ossett. He was in those days part of a duo but today he is a well established entertainer/singer in his own right.. Oh, by the way, his name is, Joseph O'Brien, Joseph looked very smart onstage in a shiny blue suit and white shirt, like the shoes. The first song I heard tonight was, 'Don't Played It No More', he looked very comfortable on stage, relaxed and confident. There were some comedy moments in this set. I liked his Dean Martin version of, 'Ain't That A Kick In The Head', wow, what a performer. Joseph has a wide repertoire and chose a song for some ladies at the back, (The Royal Box)', Sam Cooke's, 'Bring It On Home To Me'. I like his sound system; the last song I heard was one by Take That, 'A Million Love Songs', a super show from Joseph O'Brien. Surely a Star of the future, Joseph O'Brien ... The Prince Of Wales WMC. Tonight at the Prince Of Wales WMC I saw Mark Turver, he is a very good act, good voice, sound system and good tracks. Mark is always smartly dressed for his shows, he had just got back from an afternoon show at, The Drink' in Wakefield. Mark opened his show with Roy Orbison's, 'Pretty Woman', Eddie Cochran's, ‘Three Steps To Heaven', It was like Quiz night remembering the artistes, Brian Cliff and me got them right though. There was Marty Wilde’s, 'Teenager In Love', Emile Ford’s, 'What Do Wanna Make Those Eyes At Me For', The Drifters, 'Saturday Night At The Movies', Marks next song was, 'The Night Has A Thousand Eyes' a Bobby Vee song. 'Poetry In Motion' a Johnny Tillotson hit. There were Lots of others and the members were singing along with Mark Turver. The club has undergone a transformation over the past few weeks, it has had a complete re-paint, new carpet, new blinds at the windows, it looks super. I would urge members to come and give their support, The club looks terrific. The Prince Of Wales WMC. BLACKPOOL COMMAND.

George Vth club is always very busy on Saturday nights and tonight was no different; the artiste on stage is a good friend of mine, John Fitzpatrick, who is a very popular entertainer. He has an outstanding voice and chooses his songs carefully to suit his audiences. He was as always immaculately dressed, Tonight John was on stage into his second set when we arrived. He sang songs by Elvis Presley, Eden Kane, The Backstreet Boys, David Alexander, 'The Answer', this went down really well. John was in fine voice tonight, (well he always is), a few jokes went down well. Cliff Richard was featured with, 'Bachelor Boy'. There were golden oldie rock and roll songs, Billy Hayley, Sam Cooke and lots of others. A local character Jeff was first to the dance floor; John did his party piece, one of the Kings Of Leon's then ended his set with, 'I Believe I Can Fly'. Super John Fitzpatrick. PS, like the shoes... Horbury WMC Welcomed The Super Boy Band, Fuel. I saw these guys, Leighton, Davies, Mike Tomes and Chris Raven, a few weeks ago in another club on their second set and I wanted to see the first one which has been turned round to include a swing set. Tonight Fuel opened with their show in style, the lights flashed in red on the ceiling saying, 'WELCOME'. in bright red. Some of the songs were, 'The Greatest Day', some terrific harmonies. The next song was, ‘Relight My Fire', followed by ‘Could It Be Magic', lots more followed and the members applauded every song with enthusiasm. Pat and I loved 'You Raise Me Up', I just can't get over the lighting, it was magnificent and I'm not usually that much impressed. There were songs from U2, 'With Or Without You'. Fuel carry a superb sound to lights system and use it to best effect The dance moves on stage are worth watching even without the music. The first set closed with Michael Buble's, 'Home’. Concert Chairman is Dave Womersley, a very clear and articulate. All three great singers Yes folks, a top band, Fuel. Greg was to the left as you look at the picture and it was a bit on the dark side.
Here's one that was taken earlier,(25 years earlier?). |
